Los Angeles, CA - The final chapter is here.

“The Stetson Bennett Story”.

What a long, wild ride it’s been.

From playing Baker Mayfield on the scout team in 2017, to transferring to Jones County Junior College, then coming back to Georgia, winning the job, and then leading them to a national championship.

That’s already a story for the ages.

Of course, the story isn’t over yet. Bennett, who still has plenty of doubters out there, has the Bulldogs playing for a second-consecutive championship.

He didn’t have 5-stars next to his name out of high school, but he’s been able to do something that other 5-stars couldn’t accomplish in Athens. Yes, he’s had an elite defense to help him out, but Bennett has made play after play over the last three seasons.

He saved Georgia in the 2020 season-opener against Arkansas. He took the job from JT Daniels in 2021, beating the likes of Michigan and Alabama in the playoffs. He’s now an SEC Champion, was a Heisman Trophy finalist, and has a CFP win over Ohio State on his resume as well.

He has the moments and throws that will live forever. Those are great. But the fact that he’s a Georgia kid makes his story even better. A kid from South Georgia, who had a dream of playing for the Georgia Bulldogs, led them to their first national championship in 41 years.

Now, he’s just one win over TCU away from bringing ANOTHER championship to Athens, Georgia.

Some may be tired of the story. Others will talk about it forever.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit is one who will never forget the Stetson Bennett story.

“You could honestly write a movie script on his story”, Herbstreit told reporters on Thursday. “I’m excited to see if he gets an opportunity to write this final chapter the way he wants. It’s been a lot of fun to watch this guy prove everyone wrong, including the coaches and the fans. For me as a college football nut, I’ll never forget what he’s done and how he had to prove people wrong along the way.”

On Monday night, the Stetson Bennett story comes to an end. If it ends in a championship, start building his statue outside of Sanford Stadium. Start writing the movie script. Put him in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Some might not like that idea, but I’d say Stetson deserves it.

One of the greatest stories in college football history is nearing it’s end. Right now, most think the story ends with a championsip.

What an ending, and what a story that would be.
