ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart survived a massive showdown with Ryan Day and the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday night in the 2022 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in the College Football Playoffs. ESPN’s Paul Finebaum said the Dawgs impressed him.

The Bulldogs escaped No. 4 Ohio State 42-41 in Atlanta at the Peach Bowl Saturday night. And ESPN’s Paul Finebaum said that he was impressed with what the Dawgs did to get the win.

“I was impressed with Georgia because Ohio State played a near-perfect game,” Finebaum said Monday morning.

Kirby’s Bulldogs trailed by as many as 18 points in the game, but rallied for the one-point win. The victory over the Buckeyes sets up the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in Los Angeles on Monday.

“There was one or two mistakes at the end, and I thought Ryan Day made a terrible call in that final possession on first down,” Finebaum said. “Other than that it is the best game Ohio State played this year. Marvin Harrison, Jr. was simply all world, but got hurt and couldn't come back in the game. Ultimately those little things were the difference.”

The Buckeyes used a passing attack powered by C.J. Stroud to fling the ball up and down the field for three quarters of the game, but when Georgia needed a playmaker to step up it had one.

“Georgia, defensively was out of sync,” Finebaum said. “They were outmanned most of the game. The most important thing for Georgia is Stetson Bennett. In the fourth quarter, once again, in the Playoffs he has come though as brilliantly as anyone in recent history.”

The UGA-TCU matchup will kick earlier than a season ago - this time at 7:30 EST on ESPN’s family of networks. Georgia is considered a major favorite to win the game, and is listed as a near two-touchdown favorite to win the game.

“There is a little bit of concern, but a lot to be happy with if you are a Georgia Bulldog - the fact that you survived the best shot you are probably going to get,” Finebaum said.
