ATLANTA - Georgia Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart opened practice for the first time in months on Wednesday as the program gets ready to take on Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2022 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in the College Football Playoffs.
WR Ladd McConkey and OL Warren McClendon both left Georgia’s 50-30 win over LSU in the 2022 SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. Kirby was asked about both players Monday, and said he was hopeful the two would be back for the game.
“We are excited to hopefully get those guys back and see what they do this week,” Kirby said on Monday.
On Wednesday McConkey and McClendon did not appear to be practicing with the Bulldogs inside of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. But the Bulldogs were doing conditioning during the mandated period of time open to the media. Georgia is set to kickoff against Ohio State on Saturday at 8 PM.
The Bulldogs practiced in Athens on Monday. Under Kirby, Georgia rarely has practices open to the media. The last time the Bulldogs opened practice to reporters was after the Oregon game.

But the College Football Playoff and New Year’s Six bowl games require that teams open practices for a brief amount of time two practice days before each game.
The Bulldogs will take on No. 4 Ohio State in Atlanta at the 2022 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. The winner of the game will play the winner of the Fiesta Bowl, which features No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 TCU. The Bulldogs are considered 6.5-point favorites to beat the Buckeyes.
Kirby said McClendon’s injury was “a light MCL” after the win over LSU - adding: “(I) don’t know how long it will be. He wasn’t able to go back in obviously. Don’t know what grade is.”

Kirby after the SEC Championship: “Ladd’s (injury) is a continuation of what he’s been having. His knees have been bothering him, and he has some tendinitis in there. It didn’t so much hurt him on the play as it just started aggravating him more and didn’t feel like he could go.”
It is expected that WR AD Mitchell will continue his return heading into the Peach Bowl. Mitchell played against LSU, but missed the bulk of the season healing from two different injuries. Mitchell was seen practicing with the Bulldogs in Atlanta.
Kirby said before Christmas that freshman DL Marvin Jones (ankle) was conditioning, and might return to UGA’s practices soon.
