ATLANTA - The question was simple for Ohio State defenders Tommy Eichenberg, Jack Sawyer and Lathan Ransom - the trio that will take on the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart in the 2022 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in the College Football Playoffs on Saturday.
“A lot has been made of this Georgia offense, and some advantages they may have. Where do you guys think you may have some advantages?”
(Don’t do it… don’t fall for this)
Ohio State linebacker Tommy Eichenberg: “Everywhere. I think it just comes down to all of us just doing our job. And if we do that, we have a really good chance.”
Eichenberg thinks the Buckeyes have advantages “Everywhere.”
Ohio State DL Jack Sawyer: “I think we got advantages across the board on both sides of the ball, and we just gotta go out there and execute.”
Ransom added: “Yeah, I agree. I think it just comes down to doing your job and executing at the highest level, and I think we should be fine.”

I don’t know what’s going to happen Saturday. Georgia is considered about a touchdown favorite to beat the Buckeyes. I think that’s about right, but who’s to say.
I do know what’s going to happen before Saturday.
Kirby Smart is going to wear this out. He’s not going to stop talking about it to his team. That guy needs nothing - like a piece of salt - to get going. He will sprinkle those grains of salt into an entire buffet.
Remember the now iconic “I want you to eat” speech?
Remember him going on off the Gators?

There’s a handful of Kirby rants to pick from. He’s going to get going on this deal as well. Stetson Bennett, Sedrick Van Pran and Todd Monken were asked to react to the statement from the Buckeyes.
They seemed dumbfounded. Then they turned on their robotic answers and gave the standard lines:
Monken: “I'm not going to sit here and say that we think in terms of this X, Y and Z. We have advantages. We have a good football team. Our tape proves that. Their tape proves it. So at the end of the day, we got good football players. They got good football players. At this point, it's going to come down to execution. It's going to come down to our preparation that leads up to this, and it's not going to come down to whether we think we have advantages or we don't think we have advantages because at the end of the day, both teams have good players. It's going to come down to doing the little things well in execution.”
Stetson: “That Ohio State has? Yeah, certainly. Yeah. I don't really want to get into the particulars right now, but obviously they were undefeated until the last game of the season. It's hard to do that. And we were, too, last year until we lost to Alabama, and then we ended up winning it all. So we certainly are not taking Ohio State lightly.”
Van Pran: “I think the biggest thing I would like to just focus on is like Coach Monken said, we both have good players on each side, and it really is going to come down to execution.”
Message discipline is not unlike other forms of discipline. It is a matter of control. It is a matter of power. It matters. Everything matters. That press conference back and forth only matters so much. That’s not going to decide this game. The big men on the line will determine the winner. Unforced of even forced errors will decide the winner (Ohio State will make you pay if you are lackluster with the ball).

Lots of things will determine the game - some of those things happened months ago.
But this little Wednesday morning tidbit will give Kirby something to gamble about over the next few days. Just another small morsel of motivation to munch on.
“We got advantages across the board on both sides.”
Time will tell.
