ATLANTA - Georgia Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart expressed some concern talking about the Ohio State Buckeye's high-flying offense, which his No. 1 Dawgs will take on in the 2022 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

“We haven't played in a while,” Kirby told ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “(We had) the time off and the break for Christmas. They are excited. Big opportunity. Only four teams left, and a great opponent like Ohio State - that motivates you.”

Coming off higher than normal scoring from LSU in the SEC Championship Game - the Dawgs gave up 30 points against the Tigers - Kirby and company have admitted that there has been need of adjusting things heading into the showdown with Ohio State.

Kirby Smart defense’s have rarely allowed 30 points or more in games, but did so in their last outing. LSU’s 30 points in the 2022 SEC Championship Game was the most points the Bulldogs have allowed in a game since the 2021 edition of the game against Alabama (41).

In that game against the Tide, Georgia players expressed weeks later that they felt they were not in the best condition to take on Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. That game cost the Dawgs a 14th SEC title, and provided a path for the one-loss Tide to move into the College Football Playoff as the No. 1 overall seed.

In the rematch in the CFP National Championship Game in Indianapolis, Georgia wore Nick Saban and the Tide down 33-18.

Under Kirby, Georgia has allowed 30 points or more 11 times in 94 contests (12%). Georgia won only two of those games (2017 Oklahoma; 2022 LSU). Georgia is 77-6 (93%) when allowed fewer than 30 points in a game (2006 Vanderbilt, 2016 Florida, 2016 Tech, 2017 Alabama, 2018 Texas and 2019 South Carolina)

“Condition. Condition. Condition,” Kirby told Rowe.

“They are going to go fast. They are an up-tempo team. They use it a lot. We have to do a great job of being in great shape, so that we can play our players and play a lot of snaps. We have to try to control that tempo by the way we play.”
