ATHENS - If you’re a Georgia fan right now, life couldn’t be much better.

Your Bulldogs are reigning national champions and the favorite to win another title to cap off the 2022 season.

Kirby Smart and his staff continue to dominate on the recruiting trail and will likely sign another top-3 class in 2023.

Now imagine Georgia lands the nation’s top overall 2024 prospect. And by the way, he’s a quarterback with NFL arm talent.

That would be elite 5-star QB Dylan Raiola‍, who recently de-committed from Ohio State. The 6-foot-3 220-pounder out of Chandler (AZ) has been compared to Patrick Mahomes by sources who have watched him throw over the years. Sources say the Bulldogs were the team to beat for Raiola early in his recruitment, but a commitment to Ohio State on May 9th made the Bulldogs look at other options.

Georgia went hard after current 2024 QB commit Ryan Puglisi‍ in June and were able to land his commitment on October 16th. Since being offered by Georgia, Puglisi has seen his stock soar and is now ranked as the No. 3 QB prospect in the country according to On3.

We’ve reported all year long that Georgia’s plan is to take two quarterbacks in the 2024 class. Sources say Puglisi and his family understood that plan when they were being recruited by Smart and offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

Raiola appeared to be Georgia’s top QB target early in the process, offering him in mid-June of 2021.

Raiola told Dawg Post last year that he has a strong connection to Matthew Stafford as his father, Dominic Raiola, played with the former Bulldog during their time together with the Detroit Lions. Raiola has been familiar with the Georgia program since he was a child and has already established a connection with Georgia play-caller Todd Monken.

With one quarterback commitment already on board, can Georgia really land Raiola as well?

It won’t be easy with the USC Trojans also in the mix, but a few sources believe the Bulldogs are still a major player in the Raiola sweepstakes. A Nebraska legacy, there’s some who think he could head to Lincoln and try to revive the program under new head coach Matt Rhule.

Even with Puglisi on board, Kirby Smart and Todd Monken aren’t turning Raiola away. If the young man wants to be a Bulldog, they’re going to welcome him with open arms.

As it stands today, Raiola is now uncommitted, and sources say he’s back to giving Georgia a long look. Sources also believe that the USC Trojans are a team high on his list. Of course, it’s easy to see why.

Could we see a Raiola/Puglisi battle coming to Athens one day? Two of the nation’s best high school quarterbacks going head to head to win the Georgia job?

That would be one hell of a quarterback battle....
