ATHENS - Gunner Stockton looks ready for Alabama.
After an unimpressive game against the Sooners Stockton bounced back with one of the best games of his Bulldog career against Vanderbilt last weekend.
The senior captain was outstanding against the Commodores as he went 25/32 for 295 yards and three touchdowns. He delivered multiple big throws down the field, he was accurate, and once again executed the offense at a high level.
Georgia Bulldog head coach Kirby Smart raved about his veteran quarterback after his big performance.
“I thought Gunner did an outstanding job with execution,” Smart told reporters after Georgia’s 38-14 win. “He played probably his best game.”
Don’t Forget Your FanDuel Bets!!
According to FanDuel, Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton has +3000 odds of winning the Heisman Trophy later this season.
Stockton led to offense to several explosive plays and continued his elite play in the red-area. The Bulldogs have done an excellent job of finding the end-zone when they get inside the 25-yard line and a big reason why has been Stockton’s efficient play.
He’s also distributing the football evenly. Ten different Bulldogs caught a pass against Vanderbilt, making it difficult for opposing defenses to focus on just one player.
Stockton’s down-field accuracy was outstanding and he’ll have to keep that up if they want to hit some explosives down the field against a very talented Crimson Tide secondary. Kirby Smart knows what the offense is capable of and is hoping to see Stockton at his best for a second consecutive week.
“They do a tremendous job on offense,” Smart told reporters. “They're executing at a high level. They're hard to defend. They got multiple personnel groupings. I believe in running the ball. I believe in being physical and we’ve got an experienced quarterback. Those things allow you to be aggressive and be explosive. But they're well equipped to do.”
There’s a confidence that Smart has in the offense. A confidence in his quarterback. Even with a banged-up running back room Smart believes the offense has everything they need to be an efficient and explosive offense who matter who they’re playing.
The run game could be the determining factor in whether the Dawgs win or lose on Saturday night, but if Stockton is at his best, the Bulldogs can absolutely leave Tuscaloosa victorious.
Through his first five games Stockton is 77/102 for 1,049 yards and 13 touchdowns. He had one tough quarter against the Sooners, but outside of that, Stockton has been elite.
And they’ll need him to be elite on Saturday night.
