ATHENS - One of Ohio State’s top playmakers, WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, will not play in the 2022 Peach Bowl against Kirby Smart’s No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs.
On Monday, Ohio State announced that Smith-Njigba would begin preparing for the NFL draft while recovering from an injury.
"He has had such a major impact here in Columbus, on and off the field, in a relatively short period of time,” Day said of Smith-Njigba in a statement.
On Sunday Day told reporters that he would have more information later in the week, and that came today.
“We’ll probably have more of an update in the next couple of days of exactly where that’s at,” Day said of Smith-Njigba’s status.
The former Buckeye set Ohio State single-season records for receptions and receiving yards a year ago, but has been hampered with a hamstring injury. That injury happened during the season-opening win over Notre Dame. Smith-Njigba last played against Iowa, which was in late October.

In 2022, Smith-Njigba has five catches for 43 yards.
“I want to thank Jaxon for all he has done for our Ohio State program,” Day said in a statement. “We all know he has a very bright future ahead of him and we all support him as he moves forward with his career.”
The Bulldogs are coming off a 50-30 win over LSU in the 2022 SEC Championship Game. The last time Ohio State played there were thumped 45-23 at home against Michigan last Saturday - meaning the Buckeyes “were able to rest and bounce back.”
“I would like to give my guys a little bit of time to get healthy and in shape,” Kirby told ESPN Sunday. “But (Ohio State) didn't play in a conference championship.”
Kirby went on to complement the talent level at Ohio State - saying he knows it well.
"They have a lot of good players. We know that because they have a lot of players we recruited," he said. "It will be a big game, and our players love that."
