JOHNS CREEK - The high school season is finally here in Georgia, and as always, the season got kicked off with the annual Corky Kell Classic.

Day one featured a top Georgia Bulldog target in 5-star ATH, Mike Matthews‍.

The impressive 6-foot-1 180-pounder is long, athletic, and made big plays on both sides of the ball for the Parkview Panthers who took down Johns Creek 52-7 in their season opener.

Matthews, who holds a Georgia offer from Kirby Smart and Bryan McClendon, showed great ball skills and the ability to create separation from opposing defensive backs. He’s a deep threat vertically, but he’s also a crisp route-runner who scored two touchdowns on easy inside slant routes.

He was easily the highest-ranked recruit in the game and he showed why early on, scoring both touchdowns and intercepting a pass in the first half. He was playing on a different level and everyone knew it.

An AAU star on the basketball court, Matthews has the ability to high-point the football, and whether he’s on offense or defense, if the ball is in the air, he’s coming down with it. He’s one of the top two-way players in Georgia, and he’s bound for a gigantic junior season for a Parkview team on the rise.

As a sophomore last year, Matthews caught 48 passes for 764 yards and 7 touchdowns. On defense, Matthews made27 tackles and one INT. Look for those numbers to only increase this season as a junior.

Matthews holds early offers from Georgia, Clemson, Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, and many more. He’s ranked by Dawg Post as the No. 4 prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class and ranked by the 247 Composite as the No. 21 overall prospect in the country.
