ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs got some bad news today on the offensive side of the ball.
A number of outlets reported earlier today and Dawg Post has confirmed that wide receiver Arian Smith, one of the fastest players on the current roster, will miss an extended period of time after required ankle surgery.
The former four-star prospect has battled injuries throughout his Bulldog career and was hoping to come back from a serious leg injury that ended his 2021 season last fall.
Smith, a true playmaker when healthy enough to see the field, was hoping to have a breakout season in his 3rd season with the program. The 6-foot-0 185-pound track star has shown big-play potential with massive receptions against South Carolina and Cincinnati in 2020, and UAB and Missouri last season.
A true vertical threat, this comes as a big loss as the Bulldogs lose a legitimate, explosive receiver who can take the top of a defense. However, he wasn’t listed as a first-teamer in practice, so while Bryan McClendon isn’t losing out on a starter, Smith was a big piece to the offense who could stretch any defense he lined up against.
In just two years while battling multiple injuries, Smith has caught five passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
