ATHENS - The Georgia Bulldogs have one of the most battle-tested offensive coordinators in college football - Todd Monken

On their march to the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2021, Monken’s high-powered offense averaged 38.6 points a game and led the SEC in yards per play.

With Georgia's “next man up mentality,” the Dawgs’ tight end, wide receiver and quarterback rooms are aiming to keep up the explosion on their side of the ball. With Monken at the helm, this offense will continue to prosper in the upcoming 2022 season.

At Media Days, quarterback Stetson Bennett described Monken as “intense and detail-oriented.". Now Monken and Bennett will have to incorporate new players into a system that has been successful.

“We don’t lack talent. We lack experience,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart told reporters last week

Kendall Milton, Kenny McIntosh and Daijun Edwards are primed to lead UGA’s stable of running backs. Newcomer Branson Robinson, a gifted running back from Mississippi, will look to find his way onto the field this fall.

Although sophomore pass catchers Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey and Adonai Mitchell are young, they are prime examples of players that have made the most of their opportunities early in their careers under Monken.

Bowers finished 2021 as Georgia’s leading receiver with 56 catches for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns. He shattered UGA’s record for tight end single-season receptions. Bowers appears in position to be the first ever tight end to win the Biletnikoff Award, which is given to college football’s most outstanding receiver.

Additionally McConkey got nothing but praise a week ago.

“Ladd is extremely hard-working and a great guy,” Sedrick Van Pran-Granger said. “He never complains; never said: ‘I should be getting more reps.’ He puts his head down and works. When he got his chance, he thrived.”

Mitchell ended is first season in Silver Britches with 29 catches for 426 yards and four touchdown catches. His remarkable first season is highlighted by his go-ahead 40-yard touchdown grab in the 4th quarter of the CFP NCG. Mitchell played more total snaps in the 2021 season than any other Bulldog receiver.

Monken’s task in 2022 will be putting together a returning starting quarterback, experienced offensive line and young playmakers into an offense that can cover for the expected drop-off in production on UGA’s defensive side of the ball.
