ATLANTA - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs were picked to lose to Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2022 SEC Championship Game by the media after SEC Media Days.
The four-day event at the College Football Hall of Fame concluded Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs beat No. 1 Alabama 33-18 in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game this January in Indianapolis.
The Tide are returning arguably the best two players in college football with 2021 Heisman Trophy winner QB Bryce Young. Alabama LB Will Anderson has been anointed the best defensive player retuning in college football by a slew of commenters.

The Bulldogs will have to reload after a record 15 players were selected in the NFL Draft this spring. Kirby acknowledged that this week at Media Days.
“We had some high-profile players on defense and offense when you count the backs and receivers that we have to replace those guys,” he said. “We're having to replace a lot of really good football players. Great news is we've recruited well. We've got good football players. We need experience.”
Fan Duel lists both the Tide and Dawgs as top favorites to win the national title this fall. The two teams are not scheduled to play one another in the regular season. This is the seventh season in a row Alabama has been picked to win the SEC title. Four times in that time the Tide have won the league. Only twice, in 2012 and 2015, was Alabama not picked to win the league. Both of those years Saban’s squad won not just the SEC, but the national title as well.
Georgia has only been picked to win the SEC once since the league split into divisions in 1992 (2004). The Dawgs have won the league three times since 2002.
