ATHENS - The state of Georgia is one of the best across the country in producing high-caliber offensive linemen, and one major prospect in the 2024 class that Kirby Smart and Stacy Searles have their eye on.

That would be massive offensive tackle, Daniel Calhoun‍.

The massive 6-foot-6 345-pounder out of Centennial (GA) is the No. 3 prospect in Georgia according to Dawg Post in the 2024 class. He was a major target for Matt Luke, and now assistant Stacy Searles will take the reins in his recruitment.

Calhoun, who doesn’t talk much at all about his recruitment, did tell Dawg Post that he’s already established a strong connection with Georgia’s new offensive line coach.

“I like coach Searles a lot,” Calhoun said. “He’s really cool. He has a great family and he’s a great coach. He’s really cool. I’ve been to Athens a lot over the past calendar year and I speak with coach Smart just about every time I’m there. He’s energetic, smart and funny.”

“What makes Georgia special is just the people around there and the coaches”, Calhoun added. “It’s a great school, too.”

The “school” part means a lot to Calhoun. While he doesn’t exactly know what he’ll be majoring in just, Calhoun said academics will be a major part of his decision when the time comes. Not playing time, not NIL, but education means the most to Calhoun right now as it relates to his recruitment.

“Education matters most”, Calhoun said. “Teachers, professors, things like that. I want to get a degree for sure.”

Calhoun was in Tuscaloosa for a padded camp this summer, and of course the Tide have his attention as they produce offensive linemen as well as any program in the country, but if education is the No. 1 factor for him, it’s hard to give Alabama a real chance in the end.

The big Roswell native also holds offers from Clemson, Ohio State, Auburn, and many other top programs. He did mention that one offer he’s looking to add is Southern California. Calhoun lit up when talking about the opportunity to possibly play in Southern California.

As for now, it’s safe to say the Bulldogs sit in an excellent position for the top-overall offensive line prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class. He’s big, strong, and has improved his footwork each time we’ve seen him in person.

He’s absolutely a prospect to keep an eye on over the next 12-16 months.
