ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs get some big news on the recruiting trail today as they land a commitment from one of the state’s top defenders in the 2028 class.

Four-star defensive back Nick Carroll.

Ranked as the No. 5 safety prospect in the 2028 class, Carroll is a 5-foot-10 180-pounder from Toombs County (GA) in South Georgia who chose the Bulldogs today over Florida and many other respectable Power Four programs.

A do-it-all safety prospect with impressive range and playmaking ability, Carroll was terrific as a sophomore in 2025, making 42 tackles and picking off seven passes while also helping on offense. This season he’s made more of an impact on offense, running, catching, and even helping out at quarterback for the Bulldogs this fall.

As a pass-catcher Carroll has hauled in 21 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively he’s made nine passes with two pass-breakups while also making plays on special teams.

Overall, Carroll’s athleticism and ball skills make him one of the state’s top overall prospects. He’s a natural football player who can make an impact no matter where he’s lined up. He’s gifted, talented, and can help in a lot of ways in the secondary. He’s not afraid to be physical, knows how to tackle, and can make a big play on the football.

Carroll is ranked as the No. 11 prospect in Georgia and the No. 64 overall prospect in the country for the 2028 class. He joins five-star quarterback Jayden Wade and four-star tight end Asa Wall on the commit list for the Bulldogs in his class.
