ATHENS - As we’ve reported all year, Georgia Bulldog assistant Bryan McClendon has his sights set on some of the top WRs prospects in the country for the 2023 class.
The former Bulldog wideout is one of the top recruiters and assistant coaches in college football and he’ll have his biggest targets in town throughout the month of June on official visits.
One of those targets is four-star Rico Flores Jr.. The California native recently released his “Final 3” that included Georgia, Notre Dame, and Ohio State.
Flores Jr plans to take official visits this month to Notre Dame (June 10th), Georgia (June 17th) and Ohio State (June 24th). The 6-foot-1 190-pounder out of Folsom (CA) plans to make his commitment on July 3rd between those three schools.
Flores recently spoke with Christian McCollum at Irish Sports Daily to break down his top three.
On Notre Dame....
“The coaching staff and then also what Notre Dame has to offer makes them stand out. A Notre Dame degree is very powerful, it stands up there with Stanford. It's also not a four-year plan, but a 40-year plan. They've got lot of alums, there's especially a lot out here in California. Coach Chansi Stuckey is happy for me to come out there. The whole staff is all of the way leading up to Coach Freeman. They're real good guys, they're just true. They're not faking in any type of way. They just call it how they see it. That's the vibe I get from them and everything they've shown me so far.
On Georgia...
“It's just a great atmosphere. I like the South. I like how they get gritty. Obviously, they're national champions and also Coach B-Mack (Bryan McClendon). I had a great relationship with him when he was over at Oregon.”
Ohio State...
“It doesn't get better than Coach Hartline as receivers coach. He's great at what he does. The proof is in the pudding with the draft. Columbus is a good place. I feel like it's not too extra. It's a good little subtle place.”
On the importance of QB...
“I feel like it it's important because that's going to be my guy for however long I am there, three to four years. I feel like that's important. You need somebody good throwing you the ball or else you're not going to get the ball.”
As a junior last fall, Flores Jr caught 81 passes for 1,157 yards and 11 touchdowns. Right now, Dawg Post feels Notre Dame is the team to beat in his recruitment, but in the end, it will likely come down to how these final three official visits go.
