ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs QB Stetson Bennett is getting his arm loose for another big throw.

This time it will be in throwing the honorary first pitch to kickoff the No. 14 Georgia Bulldogs’ baseball season this Friday at 2:00 PM at Foley Field.

Bennett has not thrown a ball in public since he connected with Brock Bowers on a 15-yard touchdown in Georgia’s 33-18 win over Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in Indianapolis in January.

That throw gave Georgia a 26-18 lead in the game with 3:37 remaining.

Bennett never returned to the field as Kelee Ringo returned an interception from Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young 79 yards for a touchdown.

Bennett, who said in the days leading up to the final in Indy that he was “preparing my butt off, announced in January that he would return to Georgia for his final season of college football. He ended 2021 with 2,862 yards, 29 touchdowns, seven interceptions passing and 259 yards rushing. He is 14-3 as a starting quarterback at Georgia.

The Bulldogs are set to open the season in Atlanta against Oregon on September 3rd. The Ducks are now led by former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning.
