ATHENS - There was plenty of team news out of Athens today, but recruiting never stops for Kirby Smart and his staff.

We’re in a period on the recruiting calendar that allows coaches to stop by schools across the country to check on and evaluate prospects. Georgia’s head coach was in Texas mostly on Tuesday but made his way back to the peach state on Wednesday, check in on some of the top programs in South Georgia.

Smart stopped by Lowndes during the day, checking on a Viking program that is one of the very best in all of South Georgia.

Smart also stopped by Thomas County Central, home to two outstanding 2023 prospects in four-star EDGE Gabriel Harris‍ and WR/DB Adam Hopkins‍. Harris is a 6-foot-4 235-pounder with length and athleticism off the edge and Dawg Post has been told the Georgia staff is quite high on him.

Of course, you can't go through South Georgia without stopping in Moultrie to check on the Colquitt County Packers. Led by former Carrollton coach, Sean Calhoun, the Packers have someone with integrity running the program now, so expect to see the Packers contending for 7A titles again starting next year. The Packers’ biggest prospect currently is elite 2024 TE Landen Thomas‍.

The national champion head coach also stopped by Dougherty High School in Albany, home to one of the top 2024 prospects in the country in RB/LB Kam Davis‍. The two-sport star is a bigger, physical back who is currently committed to Florida State, but we don't expect the Bulldogs to back off anytime soon. Davis is the real deal and one of the state’s top prospects in the 2024 class.

Smart also made a stop to Lee County (GA), home to another powerhouse program in the area. The Trojans are some to 2024 DL Omar White‍, one of the top young DL prospects in South Georgia, and incredible 2025 RB Ousmane Kromah, who had 188 Carries for 1709 yards and 20 TDs last fall as a freshman. His recruitment is about to take off sooner than later.

Smart stopped by Crisp County (GA) at some point on Wednesday as well as he made the treck through South Georgia.

Towards the end of the day it appears that Smart dipped into Florida and made a stop at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee. He also stopped by St. John Paul II while in the area.

Georgia linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann was in Florida on Wednesday, stopping by Gadsden County High School in Havana, Florida.
