Following another impressive performance, the Georgia Bulldogs are the No. 2 team in the country for the fifth-straight week.
Alabama remains the only team ahead of Georgia in the rankings system, but the gap between the two powerhouses is slowly closing week-by-week as the Bulldogs continue to string together statement victories.
Georgia received nine first-place votes compared to Alabama’s 53. However, Georgia only had four votes last week and three the week prior. The difference is not significant, but voters are beginning to turn their heads after another shutout by the Georgia defense- this time coming against a top-10 ranked conference opponent.
Arkansas did not put up a fight in Athens and Georgia put together another elite performance in a 37-0 beatdown.
Alabama took care of business as well, routing then 12-ranked Ole Miss 42-21 at home.
These two teams are on a collision course to Atlanta at this rate, and they are both destroying everything in their paths.
Georgia will travel to Auburn this coming week and open as a 15-point favorite. The Tigers are ranked No.18 in the country after beating LSU in Death Valley for the first time since 1999. Bo Nix and company will have a much tougher test at home against Georgia, regardless of who starts at quarterback.
Kentucky travels to Athens on Oct. 16, and after beating Florida, the Wildcats are now ranked at 16. It has become likely that Georgia will face four ranked SEC opponents in a row if Kentucky and Florida remain in the top-25 for their matchups against the Bulldogs.
Something to note as well is that Clemson has dropped from the rankins despite edging Boston College.
