The hits keep on coming for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs as multiple outlets are reporting that defensive back Jalen Kimber will have season-ending surgery on his shoulder.
Dawg Nation was the first to report.
Kimber, a four-star cornerback who signed with Georgia out of Texas in the 2020 class, red-shirted last season and played in a reserve role through the first three games of this season. Kimber was battling multiple other cornerbacks for playing time including Kelee Ringo, Ameer Speed, among others. One of the fastest defensive backs on the roster, Kimber had a strong G-Day performance this past spring and was one of the first cornerbacks off the bench this season when healthy.
He was unable to earn one of the starting roles to start the season as Ringo and Speed have shared the cornerback spot opposite of starter Derion Kendrick. He was still seen as a talented, young cornerback with the potential to earn playing time as the season progressed.
With Kimber out, look for some younger cornerbacks to get more of an opportunity to see playing time in the 2nd half against Vanderbilt. This opens the door for guys like Nyland Green, Kamari Lassiter, Lovasea Carroll, among others.
Kimber now joins a crowded group on the injured list with the Bulldogs still without receiver George Pickens, receiver Dominick Blaylock, tight end Darnell Washington, defensive back Tykee Smith, among others.
