ATHENS - Georgia QB JT Daniels said that he’s getting back to full strength as he gets ready to play Vanderbilt in Nashville.

The news comes after Daniels had a 300-yard, 3-touchdown performance during No. 2 Georgia’s 40-13 win over South Carolina on Saturday. Daniels missed the Dawgs’ previous game, a blowout win over UAB.

“It has been getting better every day,” Daniels told reporters. “It has something that has been hurt since fall camp. It never really goes away.”

Daniels said he sustained his injury in fall camp, and that it got worse after the 10-3 win over No. 2 Clemson.

“We focused on rehab after that week,” he said. “And last week we rehabbed as much as we could. And this week is the same thing. (The injury) is just going to keep getting better and better.”

JT Daniels, an Irvine, Calif., native who was recovering from a torn ACL at Southern Cal in 2019, served as Georgia’s starting quarterback from game 7 of the Bulldogs’ 2020 campaign through the 2021 opener. Georgia ranks fifth nationally on third down conversions (22-for-38, 57.8 percent) and a large reason of that is because of the play of Daniels. This year on third downs, he is 14-for-16 for 99 yards and one TD, one INT and one sack. Ten of the completions have resulted in a first down.

“A lot of third down is pure drop-back passing,” Daniels said. “Which is something I have always prided myself on, and something that I am always looking to improve on. Being the type of quarterback I am drop-back passing has to be a significant attribute of mine. Third-down passing, for me, is an indicator of how well I am doing, and how well our offense is doing in terms of execution in the drop-back passing game.”
