Georgia QB Stetson Bennett named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

The Mailman came and the Mailman delivered, so the SEC delivered him Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Few people thought Stetson Bennett would see the field this season after starting a handful of games last year. JT Daniels is Georgia’s QB1, and the general assumption was that Carson Beck would serve as his primary backup.
Daniels missed Saturday’s action against UAB, and Bennett was announced the starter just minutes before kickoff. He revealed after the game that he found out he would be starting two days beforehand.
Bennett threw for 288 yards and five touchdowns with an 83% clip. What was even more impressive is that at one point, he was a perfect 5-for-5 with over 200 yards and four touchdowns in the 56-7 beatdown.
The Mailman put up video game numbers- maybe even better than a video game.
Bennett does share the honor with Kentucky running back Chris Rodriguez, but that does not take away from how impressive it is for a backup quarterback, and presumed QB3, to enter a game as a starter on short notice and help the team put up 56 points.
He had an absolute field day connecting with several different receivers, and he even showed off his legs on a 20-yard scamper.
Daniels’ status for the South Carolina matchup next Saturday is unclear, but head coach Kirby Smart told the media on Monday that his condition is improving. If Georgia holds Daniels out of another contest to assist him in properly healing, Bennett proved he is capable of leading the team to a victory.
