The newest AP Poll is out and the Georgia Bulldogs have jumped to No.2 after their big 10-3 win over Clemson, who now come in at No.6

Off-season expectations and hype have surrounded Georgia’s offensive weapons and quarterback JT Daniels, but their defense is the reason why they cemented themselves as a top-2 team. Daniels did not play poorly, but there was no flash to the offense or the play calling. He threw for 135 yards and without a touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, the Bulldog defense looked like one of, if not the best unit in the country. More specifically, the front seven dominated. Georgia sacked Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei seven times and held him to just 178 yards on 37 attempts. They also gave up just TWO rushing yards to Clemson on the night. They could very well be the deepest, most talented defense in the country this fall.

Senior defensive back Christopher Smith had the play of the game in what turned out to be a 74-yard interception returned for the game’s only touchdown. Georgia’s defense was elite against Clemson. There is no getting around that.

The offense will have an opportunity to warm up and open up the play book against UAB in the Bulldogs’ home opener. They host the Blazers at 3:30 PM in Sanford Stadium.
