Kirby Smart, Georgia Bulldogs Make "Top 5" for Nation's #3 Prospect

Kirby Smart and Tray Scott need some good news along the defensive line, and that’s exactly what they got from one of the nation’s top overall prospects.

5-star DL Walter Nolen‍ has released his “Top 5”, and to no surprise, the Bulldogs made the cut.

Joining Georgia in Nolen’s top 5 are Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and Michigan.

The big 6-foot-4 300-pounder from St. Benedict at Auburndale (TN) took two visits to Georgia in June, one being at a camp on June 10th and the other coming on June 26 during  the “Find Coach Smart” scavenger hunt weekend.

This is massive news for the Bulldogs who lost a commitment from 5-star Bear Alexander in early June and are in a giant fight with Clemson and North Carolina for 5-star DT Travis Shaw‍. Landing either Shaw or Nolen would be a massive addition for Georgia this cycle, and sources say the Bulldogs are well positioned to be a finalist for both when the time comes.

Right now, Dawg Post is hearing the Florida Gators are currently the team to beat behind the scenes for Nolen, the No.2 ranked player in the country.

There’s a reason why he’s the top-ranked defensive lineman in the country. Nolen moves incredibly well for someone his size and he has enough strength to overpower opposing linemen on a consistent basis. He was impressive at both camps Dawg Post saw him at, including the Under Armour Camp in Atlanta back in late March.

The Bulldogs have one current defensive line commitment in four-star Tyre West‍ and are firmly in the mix for two of the best EDGE defenders/outside linebackers in four-star Enai White‍ and four-star Dani Dennis-Sutton‍.

Dawg Post expects a commitment from Nolen to come closer to Signing Day at this time. We'll see if he takes an official visit to Georgia for a game in the fall.
