ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs’ star defensive lineman Jordan Davis has decided return to Athens for his senior season with Kirby Smart and the Dawgs.

Davis' return to UGA bolsters a defensive line that allowed only 16.6 points a game when he played - nearly a 20% improvement in scoring allowed for the Bulldogs compared to the season points per game average.

“Yeah, there's a difference when (Jordan Davis) is on the field no doubt. Jordan makes us a much better defense,” UGA defensive coordinator Dan Lanning said before the 2021 Peach Bowl win over Cincinnati.

The massive 6-foot-6 330-pound nose tackle is a former 3-star prospect out of Mallard Creek (NC). Davis was considered to be the sleeper of Georgia’s top-ranked recruiting class, and his drama-free recruitment flew under the radar to most Georgia fans.

Davis always had the size needed to be an excellent interior defender, but he continued to get better and better as his career progressed. He had some trouble staying in shape early on, but when he was on the field at 100%, he was incredibly tough to block. He is one of the most improves players on Georgia’s roster and became a true impact player on Georgia’s defense from day one.

Davis played in 11 of 14 games as a freshman in 2018 and was named to the Coaches Freshman All-SEC team at the end of the season. He made 25 tackles during his freshman season, starting in four games, including one against Florida. Davis ended the year on a big note against Georgia Tech where he helped the Bulldogs completely stop Georgia Tech’s triple-option attack.

As a sophomore, Davis started 8 of 14 games and made 18 tackles. He got injured in the Tennessee game and never appeared to be 100% for the rest of the year. As a junior this fall, Davis was named Pre-season All-SEC First Team and has continued his excellent play. Davis has still been banged up and has missed three games in 2020, but finished the 2020 season on a strong note against Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl, making three big stops and recording one sack.
