UGA, Kirby Grab Top JUCO Prospect
De'Jahn Warren, one of the top overall players in junior college football, committed to UGA on Monday.
He made the announcement on social media.
“It is time for me to shine somewhere else,” he said. “It takes a dog to be a Dawg.”
The 6-foot-0 175-pounder from Lackawanna C.C (PA) originally planned to make his commitment in December, but those plans changed in a hurry as he decided to go ahead and commit to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.
Warren committed to Georgia over Penn State, giving the Bulldogs another much-needed defensive back commitment.
So what are the Bulldogs getting in Warren?
Experience and ball skills.
Warren is ranked as the top JUCO cornerback for a reason and has been high on Kirby Smart’s board for some time now. Not only is he a physical tackler, but he shows great cover skills and knows how to make a play on the ball. He’s not the biggest or fastest guy, but he’s a great athlete and he’s fundamentally sound. He’s not Tyson Campbell or Eric Stokes fast, but he’s fast enough to stay with speedy receivers down the field.
His biggest strength is his playmaking ability. He’s a turnover machine who always finds a way to come up with a big play. Not only can he cover the best opposing receiver, but he knows how to strike the ball carrier and force a fumble.
Overall, this is a great addition for Georgia’s 2021 class. Warren is a defensive back who can play multiple positions, and he’ll be able to come in and compete for playing time the second he gets on campus.
So where do the Bulldogs go from here?
Georgia has one other cornerback committed in in-state defender Javon Bullard, now all eyes point to four-star cornerback, Nyland Green. One of Georgia’s top remaining targets, sources say the Bulldogs are “tied for #1” for Green, who could possibly make his commitment in the coming weeks.
Another defensive back to know is three-star Kamari Lassiter.
