ATHENS - Recruiting stops for nothing - even in these unprecedented times.

UGA picked up its fourth commitment of the 2021 recruiting cycle on Monday as 4-star Douglass County defensive lineman Jonathan Jefferson picked the Bulldogs over Auburn, Alabama and others.

“Jefferson is a solid player. He’s a solid 4-star prospect,” Dawg Post recruiting analyst Matt DeBary said. “He wasn’t draw dropping when I saw him play, but he was easy to notice. He had an offer from Georgia early on.”

Jefferson is considered a top 15 player in Georgia. The Bulldogs just signed three defensive linemen in the just-concluded 2020 class.

“I think he could be a pretty good player for UGA over time,” DeBary said.

The Bulldogs would typically be hosting recruits this time of year, but the NCAA has mandated a stop of all in-person recruiting for sports until April. Jefferson made his decision public on social media.

The 6-foot-4 260-pound defensive end chose the Bulldogs over Alabama, Auburn, among others.

Jefferson becomes Georgia’s 4th commitment in the 2021 class, with all current commitments being in-state prospects.
