WATCH: Matthew Boling Wins Race Against UGA Football Team
ATHENS - Now you can see for yourself what Dawg Post reported in What We Are Hearing on Sunday.
From Sunday: It was set to be one of the final showdowns at UGA this August - a players vs. coaches race… with Kirby Smart brining up the final leg for the coaches.
Richard LeCounte would run the final leg for the players. LeCounte could exact some revenge by racing, and beating, his head coach who happened to also play safety for the Bulldogs two decades ago. Kirby could wear the same trousers he sprinted down the sideline with in 2017 as D’Andre Swift put Auburn away in the 2017 SEC Championship Game. It was going to be epic.
Maybe those pants weren’t available... Kirby, for whatever reason, wasn’t able to race when competition was scheduled to take place. But his replacement was ready to roll. Matthew Boling, who has become an internet sensation and is now a UGA track team member, ran the final leg of the race instead.
Too bad for the players. LeCounte’s lead, which wasn’t insignificant, was smashed by Boling, who has made a habit this year of running down folks on the final leg of races. He wiped out a three-second lead to win a heat in a 4 X 400 meter relay in Texas’ UIL Outdoor Championships earlier this year.
And LeCounte’s lead wasn’t anywhere close to that sort of lead.
