I have been looking back at the past season and we were very close to having a much better season than what is on paper. The worst thing that could have happened did. With less than 3 minutes left in the North Carolina Central game, Mia Woolfolk injured her foot.
November, we ended up 5 and 3. We lost to Georgia State 66 to 60, a game we should have won and with Mia, that's a W. Georgia Tech was winnable, but our post present was mediocre. Penn State was the worst that we played so far losing 67 to 47.
December started off with disaster, we lost to Division II Hampton 76 to 74 in overtime. Then Virginia Tech beat us late in the SEC/ACC Challenge 70 to 61. Then we played Colorado State in San Diego and we scored 4 points in the first quarter. Our record before the SEC was 8 and 6. We finally got Mia Woolfolk back in the UNCG game.
January we led Texas A&M with 3 minutes and blew that gam. We gave up 11 first half threes and ended up losing by 11. We played Kentucky better in the second half but lost by 14. Ole Miss beat late by 5. So January we was 1 and 7.
February we would be 2 and 5, but playing better.
We started March off with a bang, who would have thought that we would play our biggest rival Tennessee and would win on their floor. We go into the the tournament and beat Arkansas for a second time and we ended up losing to Oklahoma, but we played them pretty good.
Overall, I felt that we could have easily won 4 games with Mia Woolfolk healthy before the SEC. And with a couple of baskets against Texas A&M and Ole Miss we might have been 19 and 13 or no worse than 17 and 15. We have to support Coach Abe and staff because they are coaching a young team. I am looking at the talent that will join us this summer and I think that we can win at least 25 games next season. I believe we will be a lot quicker and athletic on defense. We know Trinity Turner can score and pass on offense, but now you are bringing in Danielle Carnegie who can do the same. But Danielle will be that scorer who will always open up the floor with her long range shooting. You are adding Enjulina Gonzalez and Rylie Tuerghalt as guards. I like the fact that Jocelyn Faison and Zhen Craft will be quick forwards who can put the ball on the floor. But all of our forwards and guards can guard the perimeter and help with the post. Coach Abe best 2 teams was her last year at UCF and first year at UGA. I think she might have her most talent ever this year. I am ready for the summer work outs to start.
