I have been looking back at the past season and we were very close to having a much better season than what is on paper. The worst thing that could have happened did. With less than 3 minutes left in the North Carolina Central game, Mia Woolfolk injured her foot.
November, we ended up 5 and 3. We lost to Georgia State 66 to 60, a game we should have won and with Mia, that's a W. Georgia Tech was winnable, but our post present was mediocre. Penn State was the worst that we played so far losing 67 to 47.
December started off with disaster, we lost to Division II Hampton 76 to 74 in overtime. Then Virginia Tech beat us late in the SEC/ACC Challenge 70 to 61. Then we played Colorado State in San Diego and we scored 4 points in the first quarter. Our record before the SEC was 8 and 6. We finally got Mia Woolfolk back in the UNCG game.
January we led Texas A&M with 3 minutes and blew that gam. We gave up 11 first half threes and ended up losing by 11. We played Kentucky better in the second half but lost by 14. Ole Miss beat late by 5. So January we was 1 and 7.
February we would be 2 and 5, but playing better.
We started March off with a bang, who would have thought that we would play our biggest rival Tennessee and would win on their floor. We go into the the tournament and beat Arkansas for a second time and we ended up losing to Oklahoma, but we played them pretty good.
Overall, I felt that we could have easily won 4 games with Mia Woolfolk healthy before the SEC. And with a couple of baskets against Texas A&M and Ole Miss we might have been 19 and 13 or no worse than 17 and 15. We have to support Coach Abe and staff because they are coaching a young team. I am looking at the talent that will join us this summer and I think that we can win at least 25 games next season. I believe we will be a lot quicker and athletic on defense. We know Trinity Turner can score and pass on offense, but now you are bringing in Danielle Carnegie who can do the same. But Danielle will be that scorer who will always open up the floor with her long range shooting. You are adding Enjulina Gonzalez and Rylie Tuerghalt as guards. I like the fact that Jocelyn Faison and Zhen Craft will be quick forwards who can put the ball on the floor. But all of our forwards and guards can guard the perimeter and help with the post. Coach Abe best 2 teams was her last year at UCF and first year at UGA. I think she might have her most talent ever this year. I am ready for the summer work outs to start.

Roster wise this is definitely a huge difference from the last couple of years, I'm not quite ready to go with that amount of wins because of the youth. But this does look like a tournament team to me, I skimmed thru the Sec and I see 7 teams I think are better on paper imo. Right now an 8th place team with around 19 to 20 wins would get us in.

This could be one of the most improved teams in the conference, maybe the country. From first glance from a distance

Any good portal players still out there that we are after?

We were one or two bounces from a mediocre season this year, but like everybody else, I expect a big jump next year.

It's still too early to tell what the SEC will look like with one more day to enter the transfer portal left, but with most of the biggest fish committed to their new schools, some SEC teams above us look to be struggling with their new roster.

Alabama - not much movement either way on the transfer portal, but they lost key contributors to graduation. They still have talent to compete though.

Arkansas - they have some nice transfers coming in, but I don't see a roster that will threaten the top half of the league

Auburn - new coach, still building their roster

Florida - lost their star center, but they have a lot of young talent

Kentucky - brought in some nice transfers. I think Morgan was a huge pickup for them, I think they will compete at a high level, but losing their star pg will hurt them some.

LSU - they will be elite again next year. They may be a little soft in the post though.

Ole Miss- brought in a robust, talented transfer class with more to come. I don't think they will be as good as last year's team was, but I could easily be wrong.

Mississippi State - not looking pretty right now. They maybe have five or six players total, so we will see just how good Purcell is. Edited because I forgot about their good recruiting class. Still in trouble, but could easily surprise next season.

Missouri - new coach, but they are a bit ahead of Auburn and Arkansas in their roster.

Oklahoma - it will be interesting to see how their top recruit fits, but this is a talented team with the ability to become elite

South Carolina - elite. They lost elite, but they brought in elite.

Tennessee - extremely talented. They brought in a great freshman class and finally got Barker after so many years of drooling over her on their board lol. I hate to say it, but I think they will be elite unless their team chemistry fizzles out

Texas - elite. Just like South Carolina

Texas A&M - uggh. I hate to see Coach Taylor struggle, but I don't think she's fixed her roster yet, and I don't know how she does. With that said, she always seems to produce the most whenever the expectations are the least. With a weaker SEC, maybe her defense saves her.

Vandy - brought in some size and hasn't had much transfer churn at all. They could be elite next year.

There's still some talent on the portal that could help some of these teams move up the standings.

Tier 1 - South Carolina, Texas
Tier 2 - LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee
Tier 3 - Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Kentucky
Tier 4 - us, Alabama, Florida
Tier 5 - everybody else

Honestly, there's not much of a gap between these tiers, so there's a chance for some big movement depending on scheduling and roster health.

Caejal44, I am thinking Texas is the team next season. South Carolina lost Feagin, Pao Pao and Fulwiley, that is the heart of their team. And think, Watkins is coming off an ACL injury, they will be a different team that we haven't seen in 6 years. They will be beatable every night. We beat Tennessee this past season and they had better talent than they will have this season. Vandy will have shooters, but you can defense them. Oklahoma has talent, but chemistry might be a problem. LSU, to many stars that might not want to share the ball. I am seeing a wide open SEC for second place on down. Texas was one of the few teams in the country who will be in good shape with their stars. UGA, Turner Carnegie and Woolfolk will be a great foundation. Everyone else will play around them, which will make UGA a threat.

I agree that Texas looks better on paper right now, and a lot will change depending on who signs where. Fulwiley and/or Williams (post from Wisconsin) to LSU puts them right there with Texas.

Depending on who we have the home and home with, we would host Tennessee, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Alabama and Florida next year. That sets us up for an interesting SEC schedule.

I see the tiers as extremely close right now. A lot can still change though.

The seven team's I believe that are better right now from first glance are South Carolina, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee and possibly Vandy. I struggled with Vandy, I believe roster wise that we are right there but they have a bit of a progress lead in their development and experience. I believe we are right there on par with Kentucky, Alabama. A bit better than Mississippi State, I have us no doubt better than Florida, Texas A&M, Missouri, Arkansas and Auburn.

Our coach Abe is better than most all of those coaches. She gives us a big edge.

Thank you Dawg44, because I didn't want to be the only one who was thinking that. Coach Abe ranks up there with Dawn Staley and Kim Mulkey. It took Staley and Mulkey several years before they got there programs going in the right directions at top schools where they were starting to get great players. Now Mulkey won a National Championship at LSU her second year, but that's because she had established herself at Baylor. I think Coach Abe will have this team ready before the first game. Let's pray for good health for our team this season.

Coach Abe is very capable and talent- She can develop players. Very glad UGA kept her -- our program was not in the best position when she arrived, and it takes time! All these posts make me very excited about the direction of the program!!

All three coaches: Dawn, Mulkey, Abe, played for legendary coaches. Abe played for two of them.

You are exactly right Dawgs30008. I forgot about that, Coach Abe played for Andy Landers 5 final fours, C Vivian Stringer 5 final fours. They were Cheney State, Iowa and Rutgers. Kim Mulkey played for Leon Barmore multiple National Championships and Dawn Staley Coach I believe was Debbie Ryan in which she took Virginia to 3 straight final fours. Dawn was the point guard on all 3.

Charlie Creme seems to think we will be improved, in his new bracketology for the tournament next year he has Georgia as a 9 seed. That's comfortably in an probably a top 8 sec finish. I hope he's right and more than naught , he is.

I think his prediction is a worse case scenario and if UGA stays healthy, we could be headed for an even bigger season. We have great players starting with Mia Woolfolk who won the Virginia state championship and she was Miss Virginia. Trinity Turner won back to back titles and she was Miss Florida. Danielle Carnegie led Grayson to the 7A title and she was a runaway Miss Georgia. And now you have Zhen Craft, Jocelyn Faison, Aubrey Beckham, Meghan Yarnevich, Miyah Verse, Savannah Henderson, Vera Ojenuwa, Rylie Theurakauf and Enjulina Gonzalez. This team should definitely be very good. If we adjust to Coach Abes defense early, we will be up there.
