When I was young, my uncle had a small part in a movie called "The Boy King". (1986). I asked my parents what that meant, and who was it about? What boy was a King? They told me, and I watched that movie when it first aired. We recorded in our VCR and watched it later as well at times. I was fascinated b/c MLK was from Atlanta, (I was born downtown and 1st lived in College Park), and he was a preacher (my dad was a preacher). I was around kids of different skin colors and backgrounds, but until that movie, I had no idea that black people were persecuted by white people like that for so many years. I couldn't believe people would do that to other people b/c of the way they looked. It shocked me, saddened me, and angered me all at once. From then on, I was always interested in Dr. King. I met people who had met him - or knew others who knew him, his family, etc. I asked questions, but didn't want to be rude. Later on, I studied the Civil Rights Movement, did reports/papers on it in college, and even got to meet people who marched and worked with Dr. King in that time. I heard the good and bad, and was struck by his courage and resolve and leadership. I once was given time with someone who had never given an interview to any media - and only met with me since I was a student and would keep his name out of it. It was always fascinating.
When in high school, I got very sick at the end of my Sophomore year - so sick I had to miss the last 2 weeks of school and had to take final exams that teachers crafted for me so my grades wouldn't drop (we didn't have online back then). My History teacher had me study Ghandi and write a report. I became fascinated by him as well, for many of the same reasons - and realized how many similarities there were with both men. Both fought against injustices, both were men of faith, both were adamantly non-violent - yet ironically both were murdered by gunshots - and that's just the surface.

I often wonder what our world would look like if MLK was here today - what would he say, and would we listen? What white people did in America was disgusting, atrocious, ugly, and all the words - and it is still not too terribly long ago. I feel like today we all still face hate (whether it's racism, bullying, etc) in somewhat different (maybe advanced) forms. It still saddens me. I on one hand celebrate this day and the memory of Dr. King, but it is still somber the way in which he died, and how some of the things he fought against - we still face today - and we will likely continue to face. We have come a long way, but still have a long way to go if we are all honest. We all fail, we all make mistakes, we all (oftentimes unknowingly) offend others at some point - even those we love the most. It's how we respond that matters. MLK was far from perfect. He had his flaws just like all of us do. Below is I believe one of the most poignant quotes from MLK.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." - Martin Luther King, JR.

Sorry if this is inappropriate - just thought I'd share. I'll stand at the front of the line of imperfection, but also have a heart that at the end we can all not judge or treat people different b/c of what they look like or where they come from - and we can forgive and be forgiven so we can learn and grow together.

I'm sorry if you took it that way - it wasn't the intention or heart or point behind it at all. You reading this and having that opinion after doing so, is part if what I was saying though. No matter what we do or say - people are going to misinterpret or negatively assume things - bc of where we are.. There is so much negativity and distrust and hate and bitterness, that even an olive branch is called a thorn by some - bc that is their world, their hurt, their experience. Again, i am sorry that is what you got. I'm certainly no great writer or speaker or anything - certainly not smart enough that lol.... I'm just a simple person who who loves the Dawgs and loves people, and is tired of all the fighting and the hate.

Thank you for dedicating your life to understanding the truth. Wont get political here. When we realize what we have done, and that will only be realized by each individual by reading the truth, then we can, as individuals, make a difference. If you make a list of those assassinated, you'll find mostly those that demanded social change in the cemetary.

How many insightful people will it take to change the course of our history? How many do we have?

When Bernie Sanders proposed health care for all, education for all, a living minimum wage for all, he was labeled a "socialist". Even poor people voted against him after he was labeled this way. Socialist Democrat means making our nation be for (all) the people--regardless of color, religious affilitation, sexual preference or college team support.

I visited a Moe's BBQ in Alabama last year and one whole wall of the restaurant was a movie screen. On that screen was a black and white, Eastern European ilked newsreels showing large groups of people being machine gunned in groups in large ditches. Overlaid on that screen was the propaganda--"This is what Socialist leaders do". Unsurprisingly, the volume was off the scale as all propaganda is--the TRUTH does not need to be screamed--even by a pillow salesman.

Quietly, ask yourself what is right.

I've always wondered what he would have accomplished as well if his life hadn't been cut short. As a white male growing up in the South it still blows my mind the contempt "good Christian folks" hold to this day towards such a beautiful soul.

All of you need to get a old school book and look up what different forms of government are. A Republic a democracy, socialism, fascist, dictator then you would be qualified for this discussion. Thinking with socialism everyone is equal is ridiculous. Name one socialist country where this equality is practice. Thinking minority wil not be discriminated against in a socialist government your crazy, they are and there is no Constitution to protect them. The Constitution is the thing the Democratic Party wants to change in this country, you might want to take a look at it. Before it is declared racist and removed.

... that would be the same "Christians" who have claimed that Trump is God's man. And the same "Christians" who harbored a large percentage of men in the clan. I was embedded in the evangelical church growing up and finished my indoctrination after being sent to Bob Jones University. After that indoctrination, it took me a decade to educate myself to the real truth. In all those years buried in the Church, I never saw the Christ of the Bible stand for anything Trump stands for--or for anything "God's people" stand for. "Trump, God's Man"? That's what we're up against.

I grew up in south Georgia. My parents were terrible racists--but "great believers in the Bible". I remember watching the assassinations of MLK, Robert Kennedy, John Kennedy and others--socialist democrats all. I have never heard of a single person threatening to assassinate Trump but thousands are willing to kill Biden even before he takes office. How dare he stand for fairness, equality and socialistic change.

"Name one socialist country where this equality is practice"

FINAL POST:

name one democracy that is democratic?

Reading "one old school book" will only tell you that in "1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue and found this land for me and you". Your post shows that you're reading the wrong books and not many of them.

Please don't bring Christians into this. Most don't know what that means and throws the term.out there to describe anyone who is American. Most people couldn't tell you what the 10 Commandments are and idea of Christianity is either from what Hollywood tells them or what they grew up seeing or hearing vs. actually reading the Bible.

Just because your parents aren't true Bible believing true Christians doesn't mean every Christian is like that.

I have experienced racism first hand from both white, black and asians. No I am not white. I am Christian and Christianity is NOT synonymous with socialism.

This country is NOT racist when compared with other places i have been.

As far as MLK...I don't believe he is a Christian. This is a good synopsis of that:

As far as you never hearing people say Trump shilould be killed etc...turn on any leftist propaganda station (CNN, MSNBC...etc...) and yes I have heard people say it.

Growing up in South Atlanta during the 50's and 60's provided you a real look at what segregation was. However, most families were in the same boat economically. Living off Stewart Ave now metropolitan parkway everyone was on the wrong Side of the tracks.
The first black student attended my High School in 1964. No one really thought anything about it
because we were already segregated neighborhood.
Several friends of mine attended Harper High School and Washington High. One was really good athlete and attended Howard University on Basketball scholarship.
The point I'm making is if you look at anyone with respect and dignity, you will find out that differences are the personality, not the color of their skin. But growing up the way I did , you see racism on both sides. It was there, because I felt it being in Adamsville and Cabbage Town.
Always remember, I bleed red when I cut myself and you bleed red when you cut yourself. My Lord and Savior bleed red on the Cross for YOU and ME.
Take care my friend.
