Moreover - my son has played basketball and trained since BEFORE this and never stopped. On average there are 30-50 kids participating. for the last 5 months..there have been...drumroll....

It can be done. New Zealand just had their first community spread case in over a hundred days.

I personally think the zero tolerance is in response to how easy it is to transmit this thing. 6 of my wife's 10 co-workers all caught it, and some work in other buildings with somewhat limited contact with each other. The families of these people also got sick and probably additional people that I don't know about. Thankfully I believe only one required hospitalization. One person caused that and was at a small business. That really opened my eyes in how fast and easily it can spread. If it can so it in that setting I can only imagine how easy it would be for it go through a school.

There is another school about to shutdown for 2 weeks - no group/team allowed in or out for anything during that time.

For one how old are the children in their study? From my understanding there can be a big difference between someone under say 10 and someone between 11-18. It doesn't seem like we have enough data to definitely say kids are unlikely to transmit it. It wasn't all that long ago that a few early studies were being used to tout
hydroxychloroquine and we see how that has aged.

New Zealand has 4.4 million people with only one city over a million people. Why four days? So confusing.

I have no idea what New Zealand has done to stop COVID. However, if it is the gold standard, 100 days free seems to be, why is no one else in the world following their protocols?

Can you explain how New Zealand accomplished this in concrete terms?

Also, they have a total of 1.5k cases. Obviously, they were doing a good job of stopping COVID before they even knew they needed to stop COVID.

Early border closures, quick to isolate and quarantine, masks, contact tracing, and (most importantly) a population willing to put up with the measures.

And being a small island nation didn't hurt.

When did they do these things and how?

Just a simple example -

Did they truly close down all travel to NZ? When did they do this? Is it still happening?

I think the population willing to put up with the measures is the most important. If one really believes in the border closures.... well that's not gonna fly in America. As you know, when the travel ban was suggested early on it was met with tons of people resisting it. The same people who now fear COVID the most it seems.
