I strongly disagree. While the initial switch to Diet Coke was rough for a month or so (did so to dodge the extra thousand calories I was previously consuming each day in Coke), all other versions of Coke now taste way too syrupy and gross. They also cover the taste of food ... and not in a good way. Whenever I drink a regular Coke or Coke Zero now (e.g., a tailgate or someone's house where there are limited options), I have to drink lots of water afterward to get the syrupy taste out of my mouth.

A&W makes a diet root beer that tastes just like the real one IMO, if you like root beer.

Yep, my wife's favorite! I use to go to A&W root beer drive in back in the late 50's and early 60's. It was located near the Atlanta Airport off Virginia Ave.
Root Beer float was sooo good!

You cant beat a fountain coke classic...especially if you went hard the night before.

Cant get into diet sodas, at that point I'd rather have a LaCroix or Pellegrino to get my carbonated fix.

Shew, that bite or aftertaste in DC is what I think is so gross - might as well be drinking Tab.

However, I stopped drinking sodas a few years ago for the most part - and don't crave or miss it. If I have them, it's usually Ginger Ale, root beer, ginger beer, or the Green Coke...prefer 7Up to Sprite....but I will take watee, tea, coffe over "Coke" pretty much anytime....too much sugar (and yes, that 0 calorie sweetener is still bad for humans). I do like the flavored Pellegrino (great pool beverage).

I prefer indulging on certain food rather than soda, but that is just me. I can't remember the last time I bought a 12 pack...been a looong time.

I'm with you, BD1. I gave it up about 10 years ago and don't miss it. That one decision may be what has kept some pounds off.
And you're right. People don't realize that sweetener is as bad for you as too much sugar for some.

I have been removed from the area for a few years, but the Whataburgers in Concord would mix Cheerwine with Cherry Lemon Sundrop...pretty sure it was the best cure for hangovers and could also eat the stitching out of levi's

That's the only one on the list I would drink.

Parts of North Carolina had a Seacruise you could order back in the day. It was regular Sundrop ("nectar of the gods" a friend would say), and Cheerwine. I do like both of those better than most.

I play golf with a man in Florida that drinks Old Forester and Sundrop. It's his favorite after playing 18 holes. I have no idea how he drinks the stuff.

It was my favorite, growing up. In those days, A&W labelled it a "Black Cow".

Diet ginger ale is hard to beat in taste. MD, DP, Coke Zero are all good. That Coke Life is pretty good as well. Saw recently it's one of the better options health wise of the bunch...not sure if that's saying much.
