I like Crean and have faith that he can turn this program around, but this is going to be a long year.
We're way too sloppy, and careless with the ball, and take poor shots far too often. Plus we don't have anyone under 6'11" who can handle the basketball.

First time UGA Men's Basketball has had back-to-back crowds of >7K fans since the Jim Harrick era:

Yeah, there weren't 7,000 in the crowd tonight. But the crowd that was there did get loud late in the game.

Just observing that we only had 11 TOs tonight. Also, Tye Fagan is really playing well, and he can handle the ball. He's earning more PT.

We are a bit sloppy and disorganized at times but they are learning a new system and will improve. How long will it take for the light bulb to come on is the question. It is definitely more fun than watching 4 guys pass around the 3 point line for 40 seconds waiting to take a shot.

You got that right. At least our guys are being more aggressive - taking shots and pushing the tempo. I hope that light bulb comes on sooner than later, because 4 of our 1st 5 conference games are against the upper echelon SEC teams. Since we can go a legitimate 12 or 13 deep, maybe we should run as frantic of a pace as we can and wear the other guy out. But I think we're on the right track with Crean.

I would be interested to see turnovers per possession information for this team compared to last year. My hunch is our turnover ratio would be similar or even better than last years team which was also turnover prone and sloppy with the ball, they just passed it around the perimeter for 20 seconds before the turnover as opposed to turning it over while pushing the tempo like this years team.

I.E. 15 turnovers in 50 possessions is worse than 20 turnovers in 90 possessions.

I mean, have we already forgotten Fox running the offense through Ogbeide at the top of the key/free throw line. The defense would just leave Derek uncovered because he couldn't shoot, wasn't allowed to dribble and we would turn it over on the next pass about 50% of the time.

I am optimistic this gets better with comfort with the system and eventually Crean's recruiting, but I will take this offensive system over Fox's a million times even if it remains static.

Agree with all of your comment. TOs are still too high, but I feel sure they will come down. The players said Crean is emphasizing TO reduction in practice. We have some guys that just can't handle the ball at all. I love Jordan Harris, but the poor guy can't dribble. He gets stripped every time.

As you say, our ratio is much better because we have more possessions. But I think our shooting % at Temple was 51%; that ought to be enough to win the game. TOs killed us. Gotta clean that up.

We are making progress. We just have to be patient. I think some peoples' expectations are too high for this season. We need to be tempered in our expectations.

We're currently turning it over on 21.8% of possessions. Last year it was 18.6%.

I glanced back a few years and we've been remarkably consistent here...right around 18-19%. There were a couple outliers (22% and 15%), but even they average right back to 18.5%.

Point being, your hunch is close. It's similar, but not yet better. Learning an entirely new system, turnovers are definitely up, but so are possessions.

I'm optimistic as well. As the current players learn the new system, and as Crean gets his players in, turnovers should definitely tick down.

Nice data, I was on my phone and didn't take the time to track it down: thanks for posting it!
