The Old: Mark Fox (163-133, nine seasons, 2 NCAA tournament appearances)
Fox went to a pair of NCAA tournaments and three NITs, but there wasn't an NCAA in the past three seasons, so he was let go and replaced by a guy with a near-identical record (166-135) at Indiana in the last nine years. Crean couldn't get it done in Bloomington which is considered a far better job than Georgia so we'll see what he can do in Athens.
Prediction: NIT

Quite the oversimplification by Goodman, eh? Wasn't IU pretty much a wreck, on probation or coming off probation when Crean took over? Also, if they made more tournament appearances, wouldn't that mean one more loss each year because every team that doesn't win it all eventually is eliminated? I would also argue that their schedule was usually tougher than UGA's (SEC was down for much of the 9 years?).

Goodman is an idiot. That "analysis" ignores the cleanup of the Kelvin Sampson toxic waste site. In the last six years, Crean was 138-69 (.667) with two outright Big Ten championships. Saying he had "about the same" record as Fox is lazy reporting, as is diminishing Crean's accomplishments in cleaning up Indiana by opining that he "couldn't get it done in Bloomington".

Indiana's self-imposed penalties were upheld but the Hoosiers also received three years' probation.

First-year Indiana coach Tom Crean, who came from Marquette, has had to contend with running a program that has just one returning scholarship player.

There are nine scholarship players on Indiana's roster after the program relinquished one scholarship as part of its self-imposed sanctions. Indiana took away an additional two scholarships in a separate decision based on an expected poor Academic Progress Report.

Whew, that program was wreck. Sampson apparently just didn't care at all about rules, graduation, etc. Crean got some good talent to Bloomington, even with all the trouble left behind by the previous regime. No, he didn't win like they wanted, but John Wooden wouldn't have won coming into that situation. People think that once the time for probation and scholarship limitations is over, then the program should rebound immediately to what it was before. That doesn't happen. That stuff lingers, and drags the program down for years. Arguably, it took UGA at least 10 years to rebound from the Harrick mess, if we indeed ever did rebound. But UGA is a different kind of program than IU or Marquette. We aren't a basketball first or a basketball only program. So far, Crean has done a great job fitting in to the overall culture. We just gotta play a fun brand of ball, create a culture around the basketball team and win. Easy peasy....

Is Goodman really just clueless? Or just trying to stir things up? Many Fox fans pointed to the regular seasons of 20 wins to make Fox UGA's greatest coach. Goodman has fallen into the same imbecilic pot. Would like to see Goodman bring up the post season history and conf championships between the 2
