That's what Rothstein is reporting.

Hate it for us but I am now a GSU fan. I hope Jonas is wildly successful.

Me too. But I've wanted us to hire Mike White for over eight years. I know AD Brooks will be happy he wont have to hear me tell him that again. :-).

Nostra, I think Jonas will be very successful. Think about it - his main competition for in-state players should be UGA and Tech, both of which are way down at the moment. Yes, Tech won the ACC tourney a year ago, but they were poor last year, and we haven't been relevant in years. GSU was just in the NCAA tourney and is building a new arena. GA is Jonas's home recruiting base. He's about to kick our ass in recruiting IMO. Many kids around metro Atlanta would prefer to stay in the ATL, but probably don't want to go to Tech. Jonas is in a good position to succeed at GSU and succeed big. I think White will probably do fine at UGA, but just watch what Jonas does....

Found a great article:

So you two have been advocating Mike White's hiring for over eight years (a laughable claim), but now say we just screwed up hiring Mike White and that Jonas is gonna kick our tail in recruiting to GSU??

Sid, you have no clue what you are talking about. I was at the game where La Tech completely embarrassed us in the NIT. Many were calling for Fox's head then. White's agent sat right behind me at UGA games. White would have taken the job then and would have done well. You're damn right I wanted White 8 years ago. Nowhere have I said that I think White will fail in Athens. White is a good, safe hire, less risky than hiring Jonas. But Jonas has a very high upside. The game of college basketball is changing - not only do you need to acquire talent, but you need to keep that talent for your team to get experienced, unless you are a one and done factory like Duke or UK. Jonas is a players coach. Just watch the way his kids reacted to winning the NIT at Xavier. Kids love Jonas and love to play for him. Jonas is from Atlanta; he played in the AAU system; he knows and is liked by all the HS and AAU coaches in the area and all over the state; he coached at Clark, at Belmont Abbey, UGA and Xavier recruiting GA kids; his brother played 7 years in the NBA and another 3 overseas and is also a product of the AAU system here. It is my understanding that at least 4 4 star and above players told our administration that they would come to UGA if Jonas was the coach. Now? Who knows? If you don't think that those coaches won't help Jonas succeed, you are fooling yourself. If you don't think Jonas will get kids from metro Atlanta that we would have wanted, you are naive or just being intentionally obtuse. But I would expect that from you. Laugh all you want. Just watch....

Do you really think Georgia will ever fire a basketball coach after a 12-6 season? If so would we replace him with a LaTech coach with four years experience, and zero trips to the NCAA's? Just ridiculous.

And how did that work out? Fox was fired a few years later, and we missed on our chance to hire White, leading to 4 inept years of Crean, that's how. What was our record that year in the pre-conference? How many teams did the SEC get in the NCAA tourney that year? We sure didn't make the NCAAs with that gaudy 12-6 record in conference play. Being 12-6 in a bad conference is no great accomplishment, and things got steadily worse from there. White was and is demonstrably a better coach than Fox ever was. So, not firing Fox and hiring White when we should have cost us 8 years of mediocre to poor basketball. If you can't see that, then your opinions are worthless.

Bottom line…. No school is firing a coach after a 12-6 conference record and you think Georgia would, that is just crazy talk.

Nobody with a working brain believes anything you say. I've got dozens of witnesses that know I wanted to hire Mike White for over eight years. You come on here and attack anyone who tries to talk in a positive way about Georgia basketball. That's all you do in every situation. You have turned yourself into an embarrassing joke. You should consider finding a team to support in a positive way. Monk is the best men's basketball poster on any message board that I've ever seen. I really feel sorry for the negaholics.

I've been a negative poster through a 15-57 stretch when you two were defending Crean and still blaming the guy with one losing season his last six in charge here.

You two were wanting to fire our coach after a frigging 12-6 record. And, I'm the negative poster? How in the world can you be so negative that you'd advocate firing a Georgia Basketball Coach that just went 12-6.

I'm extremely positive on Mike White's hiring where y'all spew this "been wanting Mike white for over eight years" BS but we should be hiring Jonas nonsense.

I'm sorry, but do you know me or 44? No, you do not. You have no idea what we have been saying for 8 years. And if I did know you, I can assure you that you still would not know because I wouldn't have been speaking with you. Now, I watched all of Fox's teams and went to nearly every home game for the entirety of his tenure and was there when he was introduced. I supported him for the 1st 4 or so years of his tenure until he had a fair opportunity to prove whether he could succeed or not. After those 4 years, it was obvious to me and many others that he would not succeed to the level I desire for our program. I watched that team that was 12-6 in the SEC; they weren't good, and I don't give a damn what their record was. I did not favor the hire of Crean (I posted about it often and got criticized for it), but once he was hired he deserved time to show whether he could succeed at the job or not. He did some things I liked, but much I did not. But I am going to support any UGA coach until he/she has shown they are not up to the job, unlike you who had been whining about Crean for years. Now, who is the better fan? I want the team to succeed whether I like the coach or not; you just harp on the negativity. Brits might perceive you to be a manky plonker or a gormless pillock, though I think nunce might be as appropriate....

If Mike White and Jonas are competing for kids we are in the wrong room.

Not necessarily. Indeed, the Sun Belt added Marshall, Old Dominion, James Madison and Southern Miss to greatly improve the strength of the conference. I fully expect Jonas to upgrade the level of recruits GSU will get, some of which we would have wanted. Kids want to go where they feel appreciated. Plus, GSU's academic qualifications are below those of the SEC and UGA. They can bring in talented guys that we might not be able to.

GSU has beaten us in hoops quite a bit. They beat us twice when Harrick was coach and Lefty Drisell was at GSU. Ron Hunter beat us, too.

If we are recruiting in the same room as Georgia State then White won't make it.
