The fighting Jonases advance to the NIT semis. Jonas coached a beautiful game, except for the final 1.5 seconds. He should have thrown that ball in the backcourt instead of in the corner. Otherwise, he switched from MTM to zone during the game. He put a 6'7" guard on Pippen late in the game that caused him to really struggle. He made some great substitutions. The defended late inbounds plays really well. I really liked what I saw from a coaching standpoint.

Somebody will probably take a chance on Jonas as their next head coach.

Jonas did a fine job for 39:59 and the commentators were very complimentary towards him throughout the game but he sure dodged a bullet there at the end. Either his players did not listen or he did a terrible job. 1 second on the clock and you throw it out of bounds under Vandy's basket instead of throwing it to your end of the court? Had Pippen made that shot, that coaching blunder would haunt him for years. And it should.

Regardless, he's heading to NYC, a good showing there and maybe Cleveland St will give him a look. Not much else out there open that I see as a fit for him. I can't see him considering the SWAC and Alabama St.

Returning to Athens may be his best option. Jonas will certainly not have trouble landing on a P5 Staff somewhere.

These wins and the positive reviews he is getting likely will make Jonas an in-demand quantity, both as a top assistant and as a HC at a mid-major. With all the hirings that have come from mid-majors, there are a bunch of openings. At this point, I would be surprised if we can bring him back.

Right on schedule. Focus on the negative, why don't you? 1.5 seconds on the clock and should have inbounded by throwing it into the backcourt. They didn't throw it out of bounds. The player fumbled the pass out of bounds. But on the whole he coached a great game.

Monk, we basically said the same exact thing? Jonas coached a great game until the final second, and there he was fortunate that the blunder of his player throwing it into the coffin corner did not result in a loss. I agree with you that the ball 100% should have been thrown to the other end of the court.

Jonas is deserving but I'm not sure there's an opening that's a fit for him other than possibly Cleveland State. I don't see La Tech or Murray St looking at him whatsoever. With Sean Miller still facing penalties, Xavier badly needs Jonas to stick around and he could be their interim coach again at the start of next season if/when penalties come down on Miller.

Jonas is in an excellent position with many options likely to come his way but I don't believe a mid-major hiring is a sure thing for him. Is there a mid-major team I'm leaving out? I'll be pulling for Xavier to win the NIT and that will certainly increase his odds of being hired as a HC somewhere, but again I don't see an opening where he/they will be mutually interested.

Florida Gulf Coast?

Ball State?

I supposed Jonas could be a possibility for Tulsa, UMASS, and East Carolina.

Most of these jobs have been filled….LaTech Coach to Tulsa, Ex PSU Coach Chambers to FGCU, UT Asst Schwartz to ECU. That leaves UMASS and Ball State… neither in play for Jonas Hayes.

I haven't looked it up, but heard the Georgia State head coaching gig is now open, so that might be a good fit for Jonas.

He'd be a great fit there as Lanier looks headed to SMU. Rob is a cousin of legend Bob Lanier out of St Bonny. Rob's been an Asst at Florida and Tennessee in the past. McCasland from N Texas turned this job down and Lanier looks headed there. Perfect spot for Jonas.

Gee, Ga. St. has been the best program in GA for a number of years. Are ya sure Jonas is up to it...with his lack of experience and all...?

Agree. Jonas can never be hired as a head coach until he has been a head coach. Think about that for a while.
