I was begging McGarity to hire him 8 years, and White was ready to take the job then. La Tech crushed us in the NIT. White was wide open with his style - pressing, running, shooting 3s. He got more conservative at UF, and I hope he returns to his original style of play. But he is a proven winner in the SEC and plays a tough schedule every year. His biggest problem at UF was following Donovan. Their fans had unreasonable expectations. He made, what, 4 NCAAs? Won over 20 games most years. His agent is a UGA guy and is also Jonas's agent, so we might get 2 for 1 here. If he can bring Al Pinkins with him from UF as well, I'm all in....

Ha, I would love for him to bring Fleming with him. But the portal gives him a chance to put together a good roster early.
I have brought up Barnes several times today. UF has been to the last 4 NCAA tourneys. But UF fans are upset. Hell, we've never gone to 4 straight NCAAs that I can remember. White's biggest problem was trying to live up to Donovan's accomplishments. UF was never anything in basketball until they caught lightning in a bottle with Donovan. And their fans came to expect that same level of performance every year. That's not realistic. And then White's best player goes down with heart problems that cost him 2 seasons. Florida has been to, or would have (Covid year) 5 straight tourneys, not four. At La Tech those four years he did not make the Tourney in any year. He's had the trending down or treading water problem at Florida these past four years … 9-9, 11-7, 9-7, 9-9 isn't that great. Great move by White and his agent, UGA is better than his obligatory return to Ole Miss.

I think Mike White can flat out Coach. I like him a helluva lot.
Class guy from a fine family, etc. This hire is way better than the sh;+show I was expecting. But truth is he was bout to get fired and this fell into place at just the right time, for both parties. Win/Win!! I think it can work out.

On my Blazertalk Site someone posted it was a "gangsta move by White because Florida wanted to get rid of him. Works out for both parties."
White had just signed a long extension last year. He wasn't about to get fired, no matter what Gator fans say. The truth, I think, is closer to White and his family got tired of the toxic atmosphere that Gainesville had become. That's what unreasonable expectations will do....SidViciousDawg said:

Mike White was dead in the water, until the win over Auburn, got him to a maybe he gets one more year status. The vast majority wanted him gone and boy are they thrilled and we should be too.

UF fans can say he was dead in the water all they want. He just signed a big extension and would have had a huge buy-out if they fired him. UF wasn't going to fire him, regardless of what their fans think....
