We keep hiring guys with Dan Mullen's mentality. Guys who believe they are singularly brilliant with X and Os and therefore they somehow don't need blue chip kids because they didn't need them at Nevada or WkU. Or because they got lucky at Indiana and Marquette with 3 stars who panned out.

There's no Tubby out there. There's no guy with 2 sweet 16s and a proven track record of recruiting blue chip guys in the SE that would come here right now. Not with so many less fiasco ridden teams out there.

Same with Hugh. We aren't getting anyone who was in the NCAA finals like Hugh was and who knew the area.

So what's left. Well we can get another retread like Andy Kennedy. Screw that. We tried that.

We can get someone dodging the NCaA who is old like Pitino. But we already tried that too.

What we haven't tried is a guy who knows UGA, with proven ATL ties. And who knows why the other guys failed. That could be Jonas. For me it likely is.

Maybe it's the guy at Cleveland State. But honestly. He doesn't have Tubbys resume. So why not just get Jonas.

That said….if the Xavier staff is fired this may be impossible to do.

I feel like Jonas is coming back one way or another. If he's fired at Xavier you'd hope that Gates or whoever gets the job brings him back.

I damn sure don't want Kennedy or some other retread or some other mid major flavor of the day who doesn't know where The Varsity is or I-75 S.

Good points, PW. Good to see you post. UGA has a lot of work to do to be a winner. This hire is the first step.

"Retreads" can work. It's worked for Tennessee pretty well. You could say the same of Auburn. We could do worse than Andy Kennedy. He didn't have the support it took to win at Ole Miss. He's showing at UAB that he can win. And he knows the SEC. Now, he would not be my first choice, but we could do worse.

Kennedy would not be interested in Georgia either, so no need to worry about him. AK spent 12 relatively successful years at Ole Miss where he was SEC COY twice. No way he's interested in spending years at the other "worst/most difficult job" in the conference.

That UAB Team this year is incredibly fun to watch. If none of y'all have seen Jordan "Jelly" Walker this season, get ready.
Kennedy along with Philip Pearson have resurrected that UAB program in a big way. They are #20 in Offensive Efficiency and #34 in Defensive Efficiency among all 358 D1 teams. #20 & #34 !!!…. while UGA finished #217 & #348. I told y'all UAB was gonna be good and Georgia was gonna be terrible back in the summer. I didn't quite know how good UAB would be and never thought we'd be 6-26 terrible.

There are a lot of openings out there and all the hot names will have their choice of "A", "B" or "G". How many of those will choose "G"? Jonas will have no options whatsoever and I'd say it's greater than 50/50 he'll be our next coach. I have no problem with that and believe he can be successful here.

Welp, if Rothstein's correct, so much for that. I don't see Jonas joining his staff but we'll see.
