My guess is our season ends in exactly seven days. My other guess is the program will have a new face in 30 days, plus or minus a day here or there.

My guess is Brooks has a concrete list of 8-10 names, with a top tier of 3-5. My guess is there won't be any dramatic public hunt/chase/declines, as Brooks will have done interest due diligence well in advance.

My guess is it won't be Jonas. Unless some of my other guesses are wrong.

Thanks to Crean, this job is the lowest of low hanging P5 fruit. You almost can't fail.

Everyone, including the new hire, must accept that next season will be a bad one. Hopefully whatever the roster looks like they will play hard on defense.

I think the question is…..is Georgia a good job? And the other question for me, can the new hire keep our upper echelon of players to build a team? It will be easy for these guys to transfer.

Not necessarily. I would agree that it most likely, but it depends on what transfers the new coach can attract.

Sure UGA is a good job. It pays great; Athens is a great town; UGA is a great school; fans have proven they will support the team - even when the team hasn't played well (I mean, who sets attendance records with only 1 or 2 conference wins?); and there is a rich recruiting base if the coach can attract them. And the new coach will have to recruit the kids currently on the roster that he wants to keep, but there is no reason he couldn't.

I don't think our season next year has to suck - this bad. Assuming you hire a coach that coaches, I don't know, defense, for more than 10 minutes.

Yes, the roster may implode again. But you can find players in portal. We don't have to be 1-whatever in conference play.

Completely agree. I was just stunned to read in that ESPN article that we never offered Fleming at UF or Notae at Arky. And how Crean is never at AAU games and has never met the Celtics' coach, for example. The new coach has to pound the pavement and pull together a roster. The players are out there. We can win!

Mouth was literally open in horror at all that. I mean ***. This is basic life skills, recruiting 101. Baseline effort. I have no words. I don't know, maybe it is as elementary as Jonas. I mean certainly Brooks will ask the question: uh, you know you have to recruit ATL and AAU, right? Right? So, what's the plan….

I had heard that Crean had not established a relationship with AAU and HS coaches in GA. That worked to alienate them, and the proof is in the pudding. Yeah, that's a basic requirement. Look, we aren't going to get all the best players, no matter how hard we try. But 2-3 are all we need. This article really is a stunning indictment. I know the coaches in the state love Jonas. Don't you think they would bend over backwards to help him succeed?

you'd wonder, right? But have they helped him at Xavier?

I'm going to start a new thread on Jonas. I want to be educated on him. I just don't see it.

It helped Jonas to get away from Crean. Crean wanted him on staff bad, but Jonas just couldn't work for him. He had heard too much in his vetting of Crean to stay at UGA. He was coached by Jim Harrick and has coached under 3 different head coaches. He hasn't been a head coach, but he has been involved at every level of a program. There are a lot of head coaches, even at big schools, who had never been HCs before they got that job.

They've had several GA players at Xavier over the last 4 years. I think their starting PG Odum is from GA. And they are in on a ton of kids in our area.

It looks to me like Fox and Crean were told to stay away from the AAU guys !! If this is true then you are staying away from all the BEST PLAYERS in the state!! I have heard that neither one tried to get to know our former players in the Atlanta area who could DEFINITELY HELP in recruiting!! 4 out of 5 starters at AUBURN are from GEORGIA and our Alumni KNOW EVERYONE OF THEM!! 40-50 players from GEORGIA are on teams that make the tournament year after year!! As Hugh Durham said you HAVE to recruit ATLANTA and GEORGIA!! SIMPLE!!
