Down 23 at the half. Tom Crean should man up and resign.

Georgia's a tough job…. plus the injuries and all. Who knows what the result might have been tonight with Horne & Ingram ??

Just really bad - can't even watch.

We played without our leading scorer Kario Oquendo too. But I'm smart enough to know that any average coach would be winning all of these games. Crean needs to be fired.

Average would be such an improvement. 5-13 on the year and 0-5 in conference has us at #229 in the NET Rankings, just above Quinnipiac and below St. Peters.

Maybe we should change coaches?

"An average coach would be winning all of these games." This has to be a facetious statement. If not, the level of irrational evaluation on here is higher than I thought.

It's just a fact. :-)

As some of the more rational posters have hinted at or stated, securing enough talent, keeping enough said talent and avoiding key injuries are massive. Crean has been mostly unsuccessful in all three areas, the latter two not entirely being in his control (especially the injuries). The notion of a magical coaching philosophy or in-game tactical maneuvers being able to consistently overcome inferior talent, size, athleticism, etc. is not rooted in reality. Those who believe otherwise are not objectively evaluating the entire college basketball landscape -- today and for many years in the past. There are some exceptions of course, but this is not the rule.

Crean's recruiting has been a mixed bag. Edwards, Wheeler and KD were obviously front-line SEC-caliber players. Camara was certainly capable. Crean had holdovers Claxton and Hammonds for one and two seasons respectively. Claxton's one year was basically a throwaway for Georgia, but he improved so much that he drew significant NBA interest and ultimately left for the draft. He made the right move for himself, even though his return would've likely made Georgia a 20+ win team and extremely dangerous.

Put all or most of those guys on one team for a couple of seasons and you might have something. Ultimately, none of them suited up for more than two seasons. Most had just one season, or none, together. And that's why we are where we are.

Incremental progress was being made and then key players decided "Yeah that's nice. I'm going to go join these other programs where there's IMMEDIATE guaranteed major success. They've already got this guy and that guy is going to transfer in." There is constant communication going on. Is this, too, Crean's fault? I guess in a round about way everything comes back to the coach.

My point is that today's culture makes continuity nearly impossible. If there's someone who can navigate all of this while also securing and maintaining high enough talent to successfully compete in what has become maybe the best conference in all of college basketball, then Georgia can try and find someone else.

Just to be clear, I don't want any coach who loses a game.

There aren't but about eight of us on here and TK hasn't figured out Dawg44 is facetious/sarcastic 100% of the time.

Put this in the rational column TK:

Our SEC Record was a combined 49-41 the five years prior to Crean. We brought in Crean to improve on that and hopefully take us up a notch. Tom Crean is 14-45 !!
49-41 vs 14-45 !! This is a tad more of a disparity than can be explained away by an improved SEC.

" Just to be clear, I don't want any coach who loses a game to Wofford, Gardner Webb, George Mason, and ETSU in the same year."

I fixed it.

We were outscored by a total of 35 points in those 4 games.

Georgia has had its share of good teams. So that can't be the excuse that we are just a football school. I really feel as tho Brooks is the right man for the job. Looking at his last 2 hires you can tell he wants the whole program to be successful. Greg royally screwed the pooch. He hired Crean then bounced.

I don't want a coach that loses to anyone. What good would that do us? We fire coaches after every loss. I want a coach that can stay here and win for many years to come.

I think it's pretty clear we are going to make a change at the end of the season. There's not much point in debating it. The real question is where do we go from here. That's where we need to focus our attention.

You do you Monk. This site might as well shut down if we were to follow your instructions and limit topics to what you approve us to discuss. And, what'll that discussion take, 5 letters??
