"The message for me is patience. When you want to build a program the right way, sometimes it takes a while and to get through that there will be growing pains."

"Obviously, we've had examples here in other sports (e.g., baseball) where we were patient and it's paid off. You can look across the landscape of other basketball programs across the country who have shown patience and it's paid off."

"Coach's job is to recruit and develop student-athletes and coach the team, my job is to support them, find ways, 'Hey coach, how can we support you more? What do you need?" That's my role. Obviously we haven't been in the tournament for a while. That's our mission right now. We're progressing and my job right now is to support that and find ways to help them grow and get better."

Crean signed a six-year contract that pays $3.2 million a year. According to terms of his contract, Georgia would owe Crean $7.2 million if it were to fire him after this season, decreasing to $3.2 million after next season and $1.6 million the year after.

will we let the program dangle another 12 months to save 4 million on the buy out?

In fiscal year 2019 (i.e., 1 July 2018 - 30 June 2019) UGA Athletics made $174,042,482 and expended $133,212,381 (i.e., a $40,830,101 profit).

Thus the money is there for the buyout if they choose to go in another direction.

"We're progressing."

Where can I find those rose-tinged glasses?

The only thing Crean is progressing to is the worst tenure in UGA basketball history. And he's slaying THAT.

Hoping this is the dreaded AD vote of confidence.

Forget it Jake, it's the Georgia Way.

Is it too early to pull the covid opt out card?

This is why Brooks is AD and not some outsider. We all know he had to say this and he is NOT the one who would make the decision to hire and fire a football or basketball coach with that kind of money on the line. We should not be angry at him UGA overpaid to get a name brand coach on a leap of faith so we may as well be patient.

bright i know it sounds like im knocking josh but im not at least in my head....sorry if my poor communications skills dont reflect that.

back when i used to cook for the coaches every signing day we dealt with him a good bit....he was very friendly and helpful....really liked him.

my only worry was him already being in the building and knowing people i was hoping he could separate business and personal.....and to be fair he had to say this at this point of the season.....in 7 weeks we will see.

I'm not trying to defend Josh on a personal level. He will say this in 7 weeks unless the hierarchy tells him otherwise. Every AD since Dooley and any future ones will be operating on that basis.

I think before we cut the checks we hope Penn State hires him for example.

Do you really think making a change this year is worth $4 million?

It's only 1 year, and it's basketball. It's not like he can do much more damage than he already has in one more year, and unlike football, the roster is more resilient. Also, I think coaches will shy away if you are quick on the trigger.

I'm saying this as someone who watches a lot of UGA basketball, and never really cared for Crean. If we have our guy, then go ahead and make a move, but you better make sure, because we haven't had people knocking down our door to coach basketball.
