Obviously the biggest loss that I noticed on the field was #3, we simply don't have a LB close to his ability and that is going to be a struggle-not only could that kid run side to side, cover TE's, rush the QB and fill the gaps in the middle, he was ONE guy and rarely ever had to come off the field. I didn't see any of our ILB that came close to him, Rice is probably the closest. Patrick is a run stuffer in the middle but doesn't have the speed. There is a reason Taylor has not played much until potentially this year, and Crowder is a converted RB. We are going to need Tindall or Quay Walker to grow up and be able to help in the middle, that really concerns me. There were times early in that game where our DL got pushed 5 yards on running plays, that worries me. On the flip side, the play of D Walker and Cox really encouraged me-they will be players this year for sure. I also liked the way our secondary tackled-especially Campbell, Gibbs and Reese. Course we didn't get tested through the air and I know SCarolina will throw on us-that is a big concern heading into this week-how will Campbell hold up against Deebo, Edwards and Smith. Baker should take Deebo most of the time but can a true FR hang with an experience college WR. Pass rush is going to be crucial this week as will stuffing the kid Dowdle who looks halfway decent. If we can force them to be one dimensional, I think the D can make enough stops to win this game-because I anticipate our offense can put up 28-35 points.

The defense to me came out a little sluggish early against Peay, but considering the opponent and first game of the year, it is hard to get a true feel for our defense-we will know a lot more after week 2. So, I do find some fault with the D but when you look at 152 total yards, 7 first downs, that is not bad.

I watched most of the SCarolina game with Coastal, their offense looked pretty strong BUT, couple things to consider there-I would bet that Peay beats Coastal based on what I saw. They said on the telecast, counting walkons, Coastal had 67 FR on the roster. They have like 33-35 true FR I think and then nearly that many redshirt FR. That being said, they had 243 total yards and 20 first downs on SCarolina's defense. Also of note, SCarolina still had at least some starters in the game in the 4th quarter. Bentley and Deebo hooked up for a TD pass with just over a minute left in the third qtr, with Carolina already up 35-6

Otis Reese, Tyson Campbell and Adam Anderson all look like they are future stars...all very fast and physical. Anderson is a little skinny, prob needs to add some muscle, but you can tell he's very athletic.
Hayes was a good get from ND....he looked the part of a veteran player.
I didn't get any stats on Clark or Rochester, just wondering how they ended up the day, maybe AFD can enlighten us?

Darin-you could see a lot of the TRUE FR have tons of ability and talent-Fields, Camarda boomed his punts, Cook, Brenton Cox, Anderson, Reese, Campbell, Cade Mays, Trey Hill, those are all guys I personally noticed and I am sure others made some positive impacts as well. The future is very bright, the key to our future is continuing to recruit like we are. Bama has always been able to build big leads in most games, and get young players a lot of quality PT-and since their backups are so talented, they are still able to compete against other teams first strings, thus quality reps they are building. By the time guys are JR's, they are STUDS because they have been playing a lot of snaps since their FR year-and against the other teams better players, rinse and repeat each year-you are building teams that just simply reload each and every year.

Haney...what's your assessment of the DL? I know it's hard to tell going up against weaker competition, but Clark, Rochester, Wyatt, Hayers...who stood out to you?

Darin, honestly no one stood out to me. I didn't see very many plays blown up by the DL-I did see Walker and Cox make some plays-but that offense for Peay was a little strange-some option type stuff, very little passing etc. It was just a game where you never could tell how good we truly are-I do think you can tell that Swift is NOT the between tackles runner that Sony and Nick were, but in space he is a awesome-I do think Holyfield and Harrien appear more between the tackles type backs-at least from what I saw last year and this year with Swift so far. Swift is a special talent but I want to see him breaking tackles running through the middle to say he is as good as those two we had last year. Then again, to me the holes were not quite there on Saturday, and we had some 1-2 yard gains that might have been blown up against a better team-as Kirby said. LOS of scrimmage on both sides to me needs to step it up this week-and I think they will.

Rochester was credited with three assisted tackles while Clark was credited with one vs. Austin Peay.

Anderson is 225. I don't think he's any smaller than Leonard Floyd when Floyd started at Clemson.
I say put the boy in the game and keep him in.
Concur on Reese and Campbell too. Badasses.
