Rising senior has missed the past few spring practices w/ injuries and is thinking of hanging up his cleats. Over the past 3 years he's played in 16 games and made 9 receptions for 88 yards.

Note: on paper UGA has 88 players (once the remaining 17 Class of 2018 signees enroll this summer) and need to get down to 85 via attrition (e.g., medical exemptions, player retirements, transfers, dismissals, academic casualties).

Hate it for the young man but his playing time would be minimal this year, and this helps clear another spot so I definitely see this happening since we are seeing this floated around now. This leaves two more casualties remaining, just wonder who they might be. My guess would be Marshall Long, Justin Young or Michael Barnett-also wonder if potentially one of the signees might not make it in school? Reason I say those three young men is because all either are coming off injury or are currently battling injuries. With DL being a position of little depth, I would hope that we would keep those two-but we have an outstanding P coming in and it makes no sense to have two scholarship punters.

I wouldn't be surprised if any of those players you mentioned opts to move on after spring semester. Other possibles would be players that have been in the program for >2 years but aren't seeing much playing time (e.g., OL Pat Allen, OL/DL Chris Barnes, OLB Keyon Brown). Knock on wood, but hopefully Natrez Patrick stays clean as he's on the verge of being suspended for a year if he slips up. Also, hopefully all of the players currently on campus have their grades straight and the inbounds have their test scores and grades squared away (fwiw, someone on the former 'Dawg Post' website mentioned on NSD on 7 February 2018 that 1-2 of our inbounds weren't academically qualified yet).

UGA currently has 70 scholarship players on campus. If Chigbu departs, then the Dawgs will have 69 scholarship players. This summer, 17 Class of 2018 signees are supposed to report along w/ CB Deangelo Gibbs (who isn't enrolled this semester). If all of them make it in, then UGA would have 87 scholarship players. Since 85 is the maximum allowable, then we'll lose at least 2 more players by this summer.

2018 UGA Football Roster as of 12 Apr 18 (i.e., currently on campus):

Good stuff AFD, I did think about Pat Allen because he is SR, of course Barnes just moved over to DL so I think he will stay to see what shakes out there. Keyon Brown is also a rising SR but I thought he did get some PT at least on special teams. I think we are likely to see one or two current roster players leave and then maybe 1 or 2 of class of 18 kids don't get in. I wouldn't be surprised if we are at 84 when fall camp rolls around-we were short a few last year when fall rolled around and got Crumpton in at the last minute also had a spot for Hot Rod as well.
