6'5", 275 lbs. prospect from Chatsworth, GA had been committed to the Dawgs since 11 June 2016.

In a football game on 9 September 2016 Griffin suffered a concussion that had him lying motionless for several minutes; then in a basketball game on 21 November 2016 he tore his right ACL and meniscus; and finally, in a football game on 3 November 2017 Griffin tore his left ACL. Fwiw, I heard that communications between him and the staff have been cool as of late, which probably led to Griffin to explore other options.

"There was a lack of communication between me and the coaches and the university," Griffin said in an interview. "Things like that go into consideration, and I felt like it was what's best for me and my family that I go ahead and decommit and look other places and find the best place for me."

He said Georgia expressed concerns about his health and added that the Bulldogs have considerable depth at his position and may not value him as much as they did when Smart first took over.

Best wishes for him!

To be Brutally honest, this is the guy Richt recruited and stuck by. Now, personally, It was noble gesture for Richt to do this. However, while we saw some good outcomes, we saw many that couldn't fully rehab. It is truly unfortunate for the player, but understandable for the team.

I have no issue w/ coaching staffs communicating frankly w/ prospects as the recruiting process is dynamic. Fwiw, we usually only get the recruit's perspective (as institutions aren't allowed to comment on prospective student athletes [PSA]), thus we don't know the full story re: their grades, test scores, work ethic, health status, character issues, disciplinary actions, competitiveness, etc. Given that only 1% of high school seniors earn FBS scholarship offers, if one prospect (e.g., 2018 4* OT Luke Griffin) opts to go elsewhere then that opens up a window of opportunity for another PSA (e.g., 2018 4* OT Warren McClendon, Jr.) to commit/sign w/ UGA.

Btw, Kirby has shown a willingness to stick with injured recruits (e.g., 2018 5* RB Zamir White and 4* OLB Azeez Ojulari tore ACLs late in their senior seasons).
