Everything Gunner Stockton Said After UGA Football's 70-20 Win Over Western Kentucky

ATHENS - Here is everything UGA Football QB Gunner Stockton said after the Bulldogs’ 70-20 win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Between the Hedges in Sanford Stadium.

Q: Kind of how would you gauge the way you're playing right now? 

GUNNER: I think we executed pretty well today. We were a little sloppy at, at times. But I know looking forward to next week we got a hard task with Arkansas on the road. Any SEC road game's going be tough.

Q: Is it hard to gauge yourself though? I mean, 'cause I know you're own, your own worst critic in a, in a lot of ways. Is it kind of hard to do that, or kind of what do you think about your own personal play?

GUNNER: Everything. There's a bunch of stuff that I can get better at. There's stuff to be - get better at.

Q: Gunner, career high of five touchdowns for you in this game. What does it feel like when you're going through a game where it feels like kind of everything's just clicking in the first half?

GUNNER: Yeah, anytime like that it feels good. You always want to score fast and execute at the end of the day and just do your job.

Q: This is the first time Georgia's had more, scored more than 60 points in back to back games in like 100 years. What does it say about this offense and this team going into this now SEC matchup next week?

GUNNER: We just got to prepare this week the right way and just do everything and just make sure we're communicating and executing during practice and really attack this week.

Q: And going back to your individual performance, you have seven touchdowns now with just four incompletions on the year. I know you're not a big stat guy, you're more of a team guy, but that's got to feel pretty good.

GUNNER: It's pretty neat. As long as we're winning we're good.

Q: What would say about the white uniforms? Do you feel like now after this performance guys are gonna want to wear them again? Like, what would you say overall about wearing them, getting the debut of them here?

GUNNER: I don't know. They were pretty, they were pretty sweet. They looked pretty good. It definitely looked a little weird, just the white, but I don't know if... That's a Coach Smart question. No, I think it's fantastic.

Q: Can you walk us through that last touchdown throw you had to Scovie? That, that, kinda, kind of walk through that last touchdown to Scovie, the one in, in the corner of the end zone.

GUNNER: Was it Scovie? It was a a choice route. He ran a great route. I just had to get him the ball, and he did the rest. He turned on the jets and nobody caught him. It was, it was pretty good ball placement.

Q: What'd you think about Chauncey Bowens when he did the hurdle into the end zone?

GUNNER: Yeah, that was nice. It was like a video game hurdle so that was pretty awesome.

Q: So you were talking about, uh, communicating and executing. It's very rare in college football to have the three guys that touch the ball the most, so center, quarterback, and running back all return. How much does that help with the continuity, communication, and execution with all the other moving pieces?

GUNNER: It's big. If you look at any offense, you have to be able to communicate at a high, high level and I think if we do that every day in practice and really have to be intentional with it.

I feel like if we just keep doing what we do and, uh, do our job, we'll be good.

Q: How much do you attribute all five of your passing touchdowns went to different receivers. What's it like having all the options that you do have, like

GUNNER: It's awesome. Like Coach Bobo said, we have a lot of depth and that's always a good thing. Being able to spread it around and get it to different guys,. They can do some great things with the ball.

Q: What makes this group of, uh, playmakers special? You mentioned you got a lot of them, but what makes them as special as a whole?

GUNNER: I think everybody, um, you know, like today, everybody just playing as a team. It isn't about one guy. It's fun when everybody enjoys each other having success, so it's pretty neat to have.

Q: How valuable is it just to have multiple quarterbacks to be able to play in back-to-back games for you guys?

GUNNER: Oh, it's awesome, just the experience you get practice. Coach puts us in the fire every day, but going out and in a game is a little different just with the emotions and everything with it. So it's pretty neat to have that.

Q: How much of the offense have you really seen? I mean, I know you've only played- 11 series so far. Is there a lot left in the playbook we haven't seen or did yet?

GUNNERl: Every, we prepare every, every game like we're playing the Patriots or something. We prepare the right way. Um, but definitely it just depends each week, um, you know, scheming up, whatever the, whatever it is. So, um, you know, we're ready each week. Even with your records, are there still throws that you're thinking about right now you wish you had back? I mean, you've been almost flawless.

Is there anything you look at and say, "Could have made"? Yeah, I wish I, uh, the one to Isaiah in the, in the east or the west end zone, um, one to London I missed a little bit, so, uh, still just gotta get a little better.

Congrats on the What was the biggest difference for you this year? Just aside from the experience, what's the biggest difference for you? I think, um, you know, it's my last year, so just enjoying the moment and just having fun and, um, you know, that, you still gotta work and do everything, but just enjoying it, so.

How well, how are you enjoying the moment, or trying to? I wanna just have fun. We're playing football and, um, you know, it's, it's the best job I, I've done so far so, uh, you know, just enjoying it. Congrats on the win. You completed passes to nine different receivers. What was it like to be able to spread the ball around to so many guys today?

It was awesome. Um, you know, we have a bunch of playmakers, like Coach- The versatility of Jakobi White-Hilton, catches the big touchdown pass for, for 70 yards, also able to run the ball. He returns kicks and punts. What do you think about his versatility? It's awesome. Um, Jakobi, he's a, he's a good player and a good teammate, and, uh, he can definitely, he, he outran some people today, so that was good to see.

So with scheme plan-wise, we can see a lot of tight ends. Was that just part of the scheme and what you saw from Western Kentucky, then? Yeah. I mean, we have a great tight end room, so, um, you know, whatever Coach Bobo does, mm, the game plan each week, that's what we do. Do you, what is the challenge of going on the road in the SEC, and do you understand that more now than you did a year ago?

Yeah. Our, uh, you know, our first pro game last year was Tennessee and, you know, just going on the road it's, it's a little different, just the environment, it's loud and, um, like we talked about earlier, you gotta be able to communicate. So, um, you know, just really attacking practice and doing it the right way.

Moment in that game? Um, I think, uh, just seeing, after some touchdowns, just seeing the excitement that everybody had for, uh, that was the best part
