After a strong season in 2025, tasting the College Football Playoffs before choking away a 17-point lead to Alabama, Brent Venables has the Oklahoma Sooners hungry for more.
The blue-blood program has plenty of history and will make even more of it this season as they head to Athens on Saturday, September 26th.

Of course the Dawgs have met the Sooners before, humbling Baker Mayfield and 2017 Oklahoma team in one of the greatest Rose Bowl games of all-time.
This time, the Bulldogs will host the Sooners Between the Hedges for the very first time.
Venables knows the trip to Athens will be one of the toughest tests his team will have all season long. The Sooners head coach spoke highly of the Georgia program during SEC Media Days on Monday in Tampa, Florida.

“I think they've lost once in maybe 5 or 6 years at home”, Venables said. “Georgia's been the gold standard, in my opinion, for college football for quite some time now.”
Venables has been the head coach at Oklahoma since 2022 and has a 32-20 record. A great defensive mind, Venables was the Clemson defensive coordinator from 2012-2021 before taking over in Norman.
The Sooners are expected to have one of the best defensive units across the SEC this upcoming season. They also return starting quarterback John Mateer, but will have to improve the running game in a big way after being just 13th in rushing across the SEC last season.
