ATHENS - Kirby Smart and UGA Football were ranked No. 5 in the first College Football Playoff Committee rankings of the year Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 5 in both the Coaches’ and AP Poll as well. Kirby Smart’s one-loss Bulldogs have trailed in the second half of all of their SEC games in 20225 except a 35-14 win over Kentucky.

The Bulldogs take on Mississippi State this Saturday at noon on ESPN. UGA is considered a 7.5-point favorite to win that road game. Then the Dawgs face off with No. 11 (CFP) Texas Saturday night on ABC at 7:30. Georgia will conclude its regular season with a Black Friday game on ABC at 3:30 against No. 17 Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The games with State, Texas and Tech will likely determine the CFP fate of the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs have wins over No. 25 Tennessee and No. 6 Ole Miss and a loss to No. 4 Alabama, meaning the Dawgs have played one of the most-difficult schedules in college football this season.
