Game grades: Georgia wins 66-27
Offense: A
Scoring 66 points is not easy. Amassing 701 total yards of offense is not easy, no matter who you are playing. Call it a cupcake (because it is) all you want, but putting up those kinds of numbers is a good, no, great sign for this Georgia offense. Justin Fields looked electric, throwing for 121 yards, two touchdowns while rushing for another 100 yards and a touchdown. The rest of the rushing game was right up there with him adding another 326 yards on to his from James Cook (three carries, 76 yards, two touchdowns), Brian Herrien (six carries, 53 yards, one touchdown), and Elijah Holyfield (six carries, 52 yards, one touchdown). Jake Fromm had a good game but hardly did much past the opening of the second quarter. He completed all five of his passes for 106 yards and a score. Overall, maybe Georgia’s best offensive showing this season.

Letting up 27 points against UMass is pretty poor. A lot of it came against the second and third team, but still, 27 points. The secondary needs to improve, maybe not against Georgia Tech as much, but against a lethal Alabama passing attack. That will be the most that group is tested and giving up 287 yards through the air to UMass is not a good look. The middle linebackers looked solid at times, but it’s the same deal. They will need to be on their top game against Bama, and they were not too close to that tonight.

Hard to knock much here. Terry Godwin had the one messed up punt return, but other than that there really wasn’t anything bad. Mecole Hardman didn’t have as great a day returning punts as we are used to, taking two back for only 11 yards. Kickoff return-wise he did alright, totaling 41 yards on two takebacks. James Cook also made the most of his one return, taking it back 34 yards.
Coaching: A
Kirby said he wanted to come out quick. Georgia came out quick. That showed through the 66 points they scored.
