UGA Football Coach Kirby Smart Brags On Veteran Tight End Oscar Delp

ATHENS - One Georgia Bulldog who had an excellent end to the 2024 season was tight end Oscar Delp.

The third-year tight end didn’t light up the stat sheet for most of the season but made a big impact down the stretch. Delp was terrific against Tennessee as he hauled in four passes for 56 yards and two touchdowns. His best game of the season.

Delp scored a big touchdown against Georgia Tech during Georgia’s thrilling eight-overtime victory and came in clutch down the stretch against Texas in the SEC Championship.

When the ball came his way, good things happened. The former four-star contemplated entering the transfer portal for a moment but decided to return for his senior season in hopes of ending his career with another championship.

He’s the most experienced tight end on the roster and has become one of the faces of the program over the last 12 months. He’s going to be a key member of the Bulldog offense this fall and Kirby Smart is thrilled to have him back.

According to FanDuel, the Georgia Bulldogs have -280 odds to make the College Football Playoffs next season.

“I’m excited about that room,” Smart said at SEC Media Day on Tuesday.  “Having Oscar back gives us something that not many teams have. He can physically block you at the point of attack. He’s stronger than most tight ends you play against. He’s a great play-action threat.”

Oscar is one of only several Bulldogs on the roster who played on the 2022 national championship team. He was just a freshman, but he saw the field throughout the season. He knows what the standard is and has taken on a big leadership role this off-season.

Delp wants to make an impact. He wants the ball coming his way. He wants to be a playmaker. He’s shows he can be at times, but his physicality in the run game is just as important. The Bulldogs need to take a big step forward in the run game and Delp has a chance to help elevate that part of the offense this season.

Delp earned the trust of the staff years ago. He’s the old man in the tight end room now. He knows the offense. He knows what’s expected, and he knows what it takes to win a championship.

Playing alongside good friend Gunner Stockton, look for Delp to have his best season as a Bulldog in 2025.
