ATHENS - After a tough day for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday, the Dawgs bounced back strong with a commitment from a top linebacker target.

Four-star Nick Abrams II‍.

The Maryland native out of the McDonogh School chose relationships and development at Georgia, picking the Dawgs over Alabama, Oregon and Michigan today on his 17th birthday.

After losing out on Tyler Atkinson, picking up a commitment from Abrams was a giant win for defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann. This is a young man they wanted badly, and today they got him on the commit list.

DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!

According to FanDuel, the Georgia Bulldogs are 39.5-point favorites over Marshall in week one of the 2025 season.

Why did Abrams pick Georgia?

“They’re elite at football and elite in the classroom,” Abrams told Dawg Post. “Coach Schumann is great at putting guys in the league. He has three Butkus award winners at the age of 35 which is insane. The atmosphere that Coach Smart is creating is something I wanted to be part of. He’s a great coach and will give it to you straight. That’s the type of coach I could see myself playing for.”

“Their pitch was simple,” Abrams added. “You come here to get developed as a football player and as a man. You have the highest chance out of any school in the past three years to hear your name on draft night. You also will get a degree from a top 20 university in the county.”

“Georgia’s special to me because they met my three things I wanted in a school. They were transparent and have a family atmosphere, they put guys in the NFL and have connections that will set you up for life.”

What will Abrams bring to Athens?

Size, speed and potential.

A young prospect at just 17 years old, Abrams is a very mature young man with a promising 6-foot-2 220-pound frame and plenty of untapped talent.

He runs extremely well for his size, claiming a 4.57 in the 40-yard dash with an impressive wingspan.

Abrams already has the physical tools and showed terrific film on tape last season. He shows strong instincts and closes well on the ball-carrier. There’s no wasted steps with Abrams. He takes good angles and has a true nose for the football. He hits hard behind his pads and shows natural athleticism, swatting the ball away and making plays on the ball in coverage.

He can get sideline to sideline while being a weapon on the blitz. Whether he’s running down the running back or attacking the quarterback in the backfield, Abrams has a knack for making plays. He can run, jump, hit, and has his best football way ahead of him.

If Abrams continues to develop and perfect his craft, he’s got a chance to have an outstanding career in Athens. He’ll be playing for the best linebackers coach in college football, so the chances of Abrams reaching his potential are high.

This is a young man who loves to work and loves to compete. He has dreams of playing in the NFL and knows that nobody will prepare him quite like Glenn Schumann.

As a junior last fall Abrams made 77 tackles, nine TFLs, four sacks, and one INT along with one blocked punt. He’s ranked as the No. 19 LB and the No. 294 overall prospect in the country for the 2026 class.
